Hi,

We are due baby number 7 in Novemebr and I am confussed about the new budget. Does it mean that we won't be able to claim tax credits for this baby?

My husband has been offered a new contract with work that means he could work monday - friday and doing less hours which would mean a slight decrese in his wage but if we cant claim tax credits for this baby then we wont be able to consider it.

It frightens me a bit as I am probably going to end up with a c section with this baby and could do with my husband being able to do school runs for a little while just until I am able to drive ect.

We claim nothing else but currently I am not able to go to work. I have worked from being 14 years of age up until 2 years ago when my mum had to go back to work. Paying for private childcare is not an option plus they are my children and I have heard so many horror stories about nurseries anyway no way my babies are leaving mummy!

Once I am able to I am going to retrain and hoping to go into nursing or midwifery but until then I am full time mummy :)

If you're talking about third and subsequent children then you won't be affected as it is only for babies born after April 2017.

Thankyou for taking the time to reply. As long as we know then we can budget and go from there x x

Even if the third child rule won't affect you the income threshold change might as most working people's child tax credits will reduce from next April as far as I can tell. This calculator gives a pretty good idea: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-17442946

Thanks Buttercup for the link, I've just put my info in and I'm going to be worse of by about £1000 - luckily I'm very good at budgeting and knowing this in advance I will do my best to deal with it over the remainder of the tax year.

i am due my 7th as well luckily its only baby's born after 2017
still a cut for most people though :(
