I moved house on the 8th November and completely forgot to inform HMRC. I rang them as soon as I remembered a couple of weeks ago and they said a letter has been sent to my old address regarding an investigation and that I have to wait for the letter to be re sent to my new address.

A few days ago I found out I've got a job so I rang HMRC back today to inform them of this and they said that I can't make any changes on my claim until the investigation is completed. I asked if there is anyone I can contact as ive not received a letter yet and they said there isn't.

Now I'm panicking. Can I get in trouble for forgetting to change my address with them? The only other thing they could be investigating is that I have been claiming contribution based JSA for the last 23 weeks but the job centre said that I didn't need to ring the HMRC about this as contribution based jsa isn't taxable.

So confused and worried!

Sorry didn't want to read and run. I have no idea what the investigation may be for but Contribution based JSA is taxable and classed as 'income'. Whereas income based JSA isn't.

I hope you've got your letter since you posted this thread :flower:

Thank you for your reply :)

I finally managed to find out who was investigating me (a company called concentrix working on behalf of HMRC) and they re-sent the letter to my new address.

They requested that I send off my husbands contract from work, a letter off his employer confirming how many hours a week he works and his hourly rate and also a tonne of wage slips. I sent these along with a covering letter 3 weeks ago and I'm still waiting for a reply. I've also told them about the contribution based jsa and explained that I didn't realise it was taxable and they said not to worry but worry is my middle name!

Hopefully I will have a reply off them soon and they can sort my tax credits out because at the moment I'm receiving less than I should be because of childcare if that makes sense x
