What qualifications do you need to become a teaching assistant?

What are the training paths available?

there are various college courses available for a variety of levels depending on your existing experience and qualifications. If you google your area and teaching assistant course you should be able to view their prospectus. hth

I worked in 2 nurseries and have 9 GCSE's above a C so I managed to get into a level 3 course which was 2 yrs long

i started the nvq2 when i had my first dd and never looked back, i did two days a week in a placement and one day at college good luck

i worked as a Learning support assistant until i had lo so similar thing, i had no formal qualifications apart from GCSE (i have 10 of them) and was required to have english maths and science above a c grade but was not asked for anything more, this was in a secondary school though so may be different in primary. i know wher my girls go to school they don't require ta's to have any specific qualifications however the job reuires you to be willing to work towards a qualification whilst employed there...

I want to do this as well in a few years time. I did hear that from 2012 or 2013 a teaching assistant qualification will be essential. There's working apprenticeships available where you get say £100 per week to train and work towards a qualification. Open university might be the way to go, Id get work experience first and foremost, volunteer a day a week.

Id be interested in any advice also.

Do you know how I would find out about apprenticeships?
