Have just stopped bf'ing my LO after a period of 4 weeks combi feeding. During the earlier weeks....around 9-11 weeks...i used size 1....she seemed ok with these. Although i know.2's are good from one month i wanted to ensure the flow wasnt too much compared to my breast supply. After increasing the number of bottles around week 12-13 i moved to size 2 teats which she has been fine with....showed no.real signs of needing to change but thought i had best move her up.

We are still using size 2s even though she is nearly 14 weeks but the last couple of.days during some, not all, feeds she has been a lttle more.fussy....not anymore wind....just whinging a bit, pulling back and generally geting frustrated. The 6oz bottle still gets taken in 15 minutes average....but these are signs i should try size 3??? I have made up a couple.of todays bottles with size 3 to see how she gets on.

What signs should i.be looking out for.that she is not.ready? What size tats are your LOs using at what ages?

Thanks x

We did 5-6 weeks on size 1 teats (but keep in mind she was 7 weeks premature) - moved up when she started sucking so hard she collapsed the teat and nodding off mid-bottle.

Moved her to size 3 teats at around 8-9 weeks as I recall - earlier than they say, but again she was starting to collapse teats and getting loads and loads of wind in her from how hard she was working at the bottle.

Have just bought the size 4 ones ready - even though they say 6+ months, they seem to be harder to find anyway, plus since these new style Avent bottles have come out - I didn't want to take the risk that the old-style ones and their teats would become harder to find.

Thanks dizz...she isnt getting loads of wind and gets through the bottle fine byt a bit frustrated i.guess...at least thats what i think it is. Just tried her with a size 3 and 6oz bottle cleared in 5-10mins no fuss...early days but just went out to.buy some more...only.had 2.

Good point about the new bottles and potentially phasing out....mmmm might go stock.up on size 4s soon..dont want to have to buy new bottles cos i cant find suitable teats in a few months

My LO is on size 2s at 18 weeks. We have tried her with size 3s and most the time she is not very happy with them, choking, milk pouring down her face etc...... My LO can be a very fussy feeder and most of the time I think its as she has silent reflux... she takes along time to fed and most of the time prefers to graze rather than take a big feed....have you tried feeding her in a quite room? I found my LO won't drink her milk if there is too much going on around her.........We will stick to the size twos for the time being, she is not interested in anything else.. we even tried the vari flow teats... she hate them also! LOL didnt' realise that avent were changing bottles??

Thanks sarah...i dont think avent are changing bottles as such...think they have just introduced a new one...very similar in look to TT ones

Hmmmmm Mia doesnt seem to be havijg problems with size 3s.....have tried on two feeds today. Taking quicker for.sure and not anymore milk than usual around her mouth.....she does the same around mouth whether size 2 or 3...think she just gets lazy or tired towards end of bottle.

Guessing larger sizes cant do any harm??? Unless she starts being sick through drinking too quick...havent noticed any of that yet either

My DD is 7 weeks today and I moved her to size 3 yesterday. Seems early, but her feeds were taking way longer than normal and she was just falling asleep with sheer boredom probably. Despite this, she was sucking like a trooper so I knew she wanted her feeds.

The feeds since then have been much quicker, she's drinking more and we've had no problems with spitting up/sickness/wind.

Just moved ds up to size 3 at 4 weeks as he was collapsing size 2s. Now he finishes an 8oz bottle without falling asleep, although he tends to dribble A LOT especially at the start. Am assuming this will settle down as he gets used to the flow?
