teat size question

I tended to move up when her trying to feed was starting to resemble someone trying to suck a really thick macdonalds milkshake through a straw if that makes any sense... so the teat would be collapsing, you'd really really hear the effort she was putting in and she'd be incredibly cheesed off at it all.

Thanks

I've just noticed that some of our teats are starting to colapse, she does such pretty hard but doesnt get frustrated.....I have some size 2s so may try a couple of them

How often should we be replacing teats, as my LO is 8 weeks old and had the same bottles/teats since I stopped BF at 3 weeks. (so 5 weeks) ?

There are a few sings to look out for that mean your baby may be ready to move up a teat size.

-Starting to take longer than usual to drink feeds
- Falling asleep mid feed
- Baby sucking very hard making the teat collapse
- Baby becoming fussy with feeds where they were previously taking them fine

They say you should replace teats every 2-3 months regardless of if your baby needs the next size flow or not. If teats seem worn, weak or have bite marks on then replace them asap. xx

My MW said that varying sized teats are a con and you should just use the fastest one?

as think about it nipples dont come in varying flows!

We are using size 2, however she has started to make alot of noise when feeding like she is sucking really hard and it aint coming out quick enough. Im tempted to try no3, however its meant for 3 months + so I dont know!

I guess whats the worst that can happen, she will spit it out and fuss if its too fast and we go back to size 2's?

my little girl switched around six weeks then again at three months as she cannot handle the number three teat which is intended for three months plus, she throws up after every feed with a sized 3-6month teat so she is still on the 2-4month MAM teats and she is very easily pleased, there are no bite marks or suckling noises and she often smiles afterwards and goes to sleep. It does seem like teat size could be a bit of a con but seriously some teats are too small, like the AVENT ones for instance, a three month plus avent teat is far too small for my girl but the mam teats are the right size for now

I find MAM teats generally very fast! My DD2 went onto the 2m+ ones at 5 weeks and then stuck with that size up until now! Im only using size 3's now as they were all I had after the last lot of 2's needed changing. They are very fast, but its not really like she needs to be having her milk in a bottle anyway, she just prefers to! xxx

Thanks Ladies.

My LO has started fussing over her bottles as well for the past 24 hours and she never did this before, I am going to try the no2 teats now (Tommee Tippee) and se how we go.

Shes also been sleeping alot today and not feeding as much (3oz rather than 4oz) so I am also thinking shes having a growth spurt.

x

thank you everyone lo and i are off to buy the next size up. i thought i had some but they are just bigger bottles with the same size teat!

my baby went from size 1 to size 2 at 9 weeks. i tried them at 5 weeks but she was choking and spluttering

Does anyone know if babies swallow more or less air with faster teats?

I realised Noel had to go up when he suddenly was really fussy, with the bottle, chewing on the treats and leaving the bottle halfway though. We didn't have the teats collapsing though. He's really happy now with size 2's and is back to finishing his 7oz bottles.

i'm not sure but i think the air swallowed should b about the same? my lo seems happier on size 2 as well glad we changed. thank you everyone!

Hi there
My little boy is 9 weeks old and using tommee tippee teats. He currently has size one and sounds like he's sucking on maccy d milkshake lol. Have tried him on size 2 but he seems to end up wearing more than he's drinking. Do I keep him on one or let him get used to a two.
