I was just wondering when you should start using different teats because in all honesty, I haven't got a clue or even what the difference is between them...

We're still using the No.1 teats and Violet is finishing her bottles a lot faster now.

Do teats go by ages or how quickly they finish the bottle or what?? Sorry, I'm completely clueless about this

Thanks x

I'd stick with the slow flow for now. I moved Dylan up at about 13 weeks as he was getting frustrated with the bottle. I'd tried them earlier and the flow was too fast for him and he started projectile vomiting after his bottle.

My 9 month old is on the fast flow ones. She moved to mediums at 4 months and the fasts at 8. We moved her to the next one as she started getting frustrated at feeds, very fussy, wasn't finishing her bottles or if she did it would take her a long time. Once we moved up each level she started eating efficiently again. So I just watched for the signs of feeding frustration again and then I knew it was time to move up again.

My son started on number 1's and he stayed on them for a while but we were mainly breast feeding at that stage and 1's are recommended for that. We moved to 2's as he was collapsing in the teet and sucking so much it made a funny noise. We jsut changed to 3's (he is 8mths) and he is getting used to them. He still has a cough or two on them but takes his bottle all in one sitting where on the 2's he was taking enough to satisfy his inital hunger (about 80mls) and then getting distracted. He ended up getting into a pattern of snacking rather than having set feeds.

Move them up when they are showing signs of frustration, not finishing feeds half way through, collapsing the teet etc. The age thing is only a guide....and a marketing ploy.

Thanks all for your advice.

Can teats make a difference with bringing milk back up? Violet only ever used to bring a little dribble up if we laid her down too soon after a bottle but the last week or so she's gulping her bottle, dribbling it everywhere and then bringing up table spoons worth of milk an hour or so later.... Was wondering whether to try her with variflow or No 2. Not changed a thing with her feeds, she's not even having more.

Meadow went onto number 2 teats at 13/14 weeks. I tried her on them at 9 weeks but most of the milk went down her chin and she got terrible wind.

I use the Variflow teats, it's taken the worry about of when to change them.

I didn't have a clue either, so one day I bought a couple of the stage 2 teats and tried Harry with them... he then started drinking much more of the bottle than he had been. So we now use the stage 2 teats all the time. I think he was just getting fed up of waiting for the milk to come through the stage 1 teats and was giving up.
