DH and I love this name! And although we aren't even TTC yet i'm already imagining having a Teddy, if we have another boy. But I'm really worried about how it will be perceived/how people would treat him. It would just be Teddy, not Edward or Theodore. I love Theodore and all of the extra names he could chose but DH only likes Teddy - he says he could chose Ted for short.

What do you think? We would have a Toby and a Teddy! Please be honest!

I really like it, and think it's fine as a name on its own. It's in the top 200 as a stand-alone name so I think it's usable and not too strange. It's a name I'd seriously consider if I ever had a third boy (to go with Rory and Felix).

It's a really in name, but I just can't picture a grown man named Teddy?

Would you respect a boss, judge, etc names Teddy? I would definitely go with Theodore or some other full length name. I'm in the US though and I think the UK may be more accepting of cutesy names on grown men.

My husband likes Eddie and I like it as a nick name. Same as I like Teddy as a nick name. With ANY name you choose, there will be someone who doesn't like it. If you love it that much, then I'd say just go for it :flower:

I think it's great! I love old fashioned names like that- timeless!

My DS is Theodore but goes by Ted/Teddy and I love his name. I know 2 adult Teddy's, one who is the headteacher of a school I worked at and the other (short for Theodore) who is an accountant, so both pretty respectable positions and no one seems concerned by their names being Teddy. I think Teddy and Toby go well together, I'd have Toby on my list if DH agreed.

I really doubt it'd matter as he could go by Ted. I am from the U.S to and one very historical man is known by Teddy even though his name was Theodore so I do believe people can indeed respect a man named Teddy. Respect has little to do with a name, and everything to do with the personality and attitude of the person.

Plus to be honest U.S can not say much when it comes to names as there is a little girl out there and her mom named her Hashtag :haha:

I like it and he could always go by Ted as an adult if he preferred :)

I adore Teddy, lovely name and one ive always gone back to and considered using. I think it's fine as a name in its own right. My friend is called Teddy, he's 35, and a very well respected money market trader. He tends to by Ted now. Totally suits a grown up too x

I love it, however I am biased as it is my little boys name. However, he is a Theodore, though we never call him anything other than Ted or Teddy. Maybe a Teddy CEO would be odd. But I don't think that Ted is too cutesy....

I have a Theodore who we're calling Teddy, so obviously I'm a fan of the name. I do question how he'd feel as an adult named Teddy. It may be fine, but it also may make a bad impression on resumes and such. If your DH won't go for Theodore, how would you feel about naming him Ted legally, and calling him Teddy?

It's just not a name I can take seriously or even picture on a grown man . At least with that name he could have the option to shorten to ted when hes an adult. I also think about going through high school with the name teddy :/ I think its ok as a nickname but I wouldnt chose it as the main name. He might also wonder why his brother has a relatively normal name and he was named teddy which is very cutesy and babyish (imo) thats my honest opinion x

I love it but would use Theodore. Its my number one for boys name should I have one. I like that he has the choice of Ted, Teddy, Theo or Theodore.

Love it! My friend has a Toby (6y) and a teddy (1y)

OH wanted Teddy for a boy and I did love it but just didn't see it working as a full name so I insisted on Theodore even if he was never called that. We also wanted Charlie and although not too keen on Charles it would have gone on birth certificate because you never know what job they will go into.

Teddy is a lovely name though but personally I can't see it on a grown man x

I really like the name Theodore, but the reason I decided against it is because of the nickname Teddy. I prefer Theo. My mother kept saying he could be called Teddy so I dropped it because she was irritating me with it lol. In other words personally I am not a fan of the name.

I saw a teddy today at a soft play. His twin brother was called acer (sp?) but that's how it was pronounced. She said she just calls him ace. Her older son was cole, I'm also not sure about teddy for a grown man x
