Morning all

Just wondered if anyone else is having any mouth problems. A couple of days ago when I was brushing my teeth one particular part of my gum started bleeding like mad. Later on that day I ate an apple and the same place in my mouth (but this time behind my tooth) started bleeding and now it looks like I've cut that part of my gum and it's literally hanging away and gone a bit white. I'm hoping that its just a cut from the apple and nothing more serious as I am not registered with a dentist where I live at the moment. Am trying to sort out an appointment but hardly anyone is taking new patients on.
:help:

i had a similar thing happen last week, dentist said i had loose gums due to the pregnancy and to use a sensitive toothpaste and mouthwash with floride and have to have an x ray after the birth to check the extent of the damage

I've had really bad problems with my gums too.

Had no problems pre pregnancy, then within weeks of finding out I was pregnant I had lots of bleeding and swelling of the gums. Dentist said it's pretty common due to hormone changes and problems will usually stop a few months after LO is born once hormones settle down

Ive had issues with my gums too I don't know what it is but the doc said that your gums can be really sore pregnant and that they can bleed due to sensitivity.
He said to use sensitive toothpaste and go dentist after I have the baby .
I rang the dental hygiensit and she confrimed this for me too

Yep, I've lost some tooth from one side, now some filling from the other and it started bleeding last night. Also in another area had swollen painful gums which bled on occasions.

Corsodyl mouthwash worked great on it, its really good for problem gums.

Thanks everyone - think I will get some mouthwash then - so weird how pregnancy effects your gums!!!! So not only do I have bad skin I now have skanky gums lol!!

Since being pregnant whenever I brush my teeth the gums bleed

Iv had it hun, baby takes alot of our calcium hun and our gums suffer and can become swollen and sore, bleeding gums is normal in pregnancy, just keep yourself topped up on milk we should drink lots more in this trimester, you can try a mouth wash to soothe your gums, and as for a dentist ring nhs direct they will give you your nearest nhs dental, and its free treatment whileyour pregnant so take advantage :)

I had problems with my gums during 2nd trimester. I rang NHS direct as i wasn't registered with a dentist. I was able to get an appointment a day or 2 later and was given antibiotics etc. I read that bacteria grows alot faster during pregnancy which is another reason having stupidly good oral hygiene is recommended. They also say to avoid sugary food and drinks so as to not irritae the gums further. Hope you get things sorted x

I'm a Dental Nurse soluckily I have a Dentist on hand!

Don't worry about bleeding or swollen gums, this is normal and will go down eventually after the birth.

Just make sure that even though they are bleeding you keep brushing, don't let the blood put you off. Brush downwards over your gum and away from your gum so that any plaque is removed from the gum. Also floss.

Corsodyl mouthwash is brilliant but don't use straight after brushing your teeth and try not to use too often as can cause staining :)

ive got sensitive teeth !!! i found the new rapid sensodyne is excellent i know my teeth are fine only recently went to dentist so its another thing for baby to take the blame for x

Im glad im not the only one here, my teeth and gums hurt and bleed too and they never used too. :(

i started to have bleeding gums over the last few weeks, I found that they now do cordysol toothpaste too, its not very nice tasting, but has really helped to settle my gums along with the mouthwash too! :)

So I know this is a super old thread but I was researching my bleeding gums and came across this website, and sure enough I see that I am not alone in this.. I went to the dentist and he said swollen tender gums due to pregnancy hormones. but I also have loose gums, so I was just wondering what your outcome was, if you dont mind me asking?
