Anyone got any recommendations for a starter telescope for a 6 year old?

No idea (we have discovery kids stuff here) but think a telescope is a great idea!

I can't find the one we bought last year, it's a really good one. We got it on amazon, but maybe they don't sell that particular model anymore? Anyways, my advice would be to definitely research it. Make sure there are good reviews on the model you are thinking about, as far as ease of use and actually being able to see anything with it. A lot of the kid models were junk in the reviews, hard to use and couldn't see anything. That seemed to be a common thing for the telescopes in the $20-40 range, so cheapo telescopes you tend to get what you pay for. I think the one we bought was around $80ish? But it had really good reviews, and it's been really good for us. We can see things well with it, and its easy to use. I'd also recommend getting a kid space type book to go along with it. We got them the National geographic kids astronomy book to go with it.
