Tell New Job About Fertility Treatment? HELP!

Hey Guys!

So basically, I graduated with my masters in May and moved states. Have been submitting resumes AND recently started fertility treatment!

I just went to an interview and got an offer for a job (its social services type), but I'm worried (the old me would have kicked myself for saying this) how the job will impact my ability to get to all my fertility appointments and other associated things.

I am thinking about telling my employer that I am getting fertility treatments, so I may have to make up some work after hours on one or two days per month. I am terrified of the response. AND.. how it seems audacious for someone with "no experience" fresh out of school to "expect" accommodations, so I don't want it to come across that way.

Does ANYONE have experience with this? Or at least any suggestions?
Should I be posting this somewhere else?

Do NOT tell your employer about your fertility treatments, especially since you are new to the job and don't know your employer well. I'd also suggest you be vague about your doctor's appointments and need for medical leave.

Sadly, many employers are not very keen on accommodating pregnant employees and will find a reason to get rid of them or change their jobs. It would just be too easy for them to make up some excuse to fire you before you get pregnant. Until you get to know your employer well and build up a rep on your job, I wouldn't chance it. There are many employers that are very welcoming for women and working mothers, but until you are sure yours is one of those, it's just not worth the risk.

I did not end up telling them. I actually planned to reject the offer due to some doctors appointments for something non-fertility related, but they said they would be flexible. So they wanted a body in there bad enough. I am hoping the schedule is as flexible as they say, or else I will have to redirect my priorities!

That's great that they are accommodating your other appointments! I would honestly just be vague or tell them the appointments are for something else. It's a bit risky

I think it's wise to be vague about your medical appointments...it's really none of their business. I recently told my boss that we're going to be doing fertility treatments in March and I wish I hadn't. I work for the government, so I'm not worried in the least about losing my job etc, but I just feel like now she's going to be expecting me to tell her if the treatment worked! I will have to lie if it does...because I don't plan on telling anyone except my DH until the 2nd tri if I ever get pregnant again.

I would just tell them you have medical appointments and leave it at that. thats great they are offering to be flexible.

As long you have a letter from a doctor for unexcused absence, you are fine. It doesn't have to be specific.

I started a new job midway through my first IVF cycle lol. Ended up having to tell them because i kept asking to come in late cos of 'medical appts'. My boss was fantastic and he was really supportive. Worked for 3years there before i fell pregnant so lucky they didnt throw me under the bus ☺. Hope it works out for you

I told my older male bosses it was for 'gynae dr appointments' that killed the conversation and any inclination for them to bring it up again and wasn't technically a lie.
