My stomach was sore after the anatomy scan. I think the tech pushed too hard. I have a follow up scan in a few days that I'm very nervous about. I'm going to ask the tech to please not push on my stomach during the ultrasound (I don't know if it will be the same tech or not). Do you think they will listen? Or will they tell me they have to push to get the images? They need to get specific heart pictures that they couldn't get during the original scan because of baby's position.

Tech was probably pushing a bit more because they couldn't see what they needed. I think it might depend on position of baby.
But do tell them if it hurts. I'm terribly sensitive fr any pressure on belly & it feels bruised inside easily.

Anatomy scans can be very, very painful. During DS's anatomy scan, the tech was pushing the probe in really hard and then jiggling my belly really hard to wake my son up and get him to change positions. I asked her to please not do that. What I got in response was, I'm sorry, if I don't get the images I need, you'll have to come back and I'll end up having to do this again. She was actually quite apologetic but said it was necessary and she couldn't do the measurements without pushing.

One thing I didn't try is offering to change positions--maybe that would work? Like if you feel her pushing, maybe say, "That's really painful. Can I try changing positions to see if it helps?"

I know your pain x

We are already coming back because they couldn't get pictures. All the pushing they were doing the first time didn't help! I would hate to come off as "that annoying person" but pushing didn't help last time, I don't want them trying it again!

You may just have to really stand your ground and say, "Don't push, it's very painful for me. Please find another way to get the measurements." You could even ask to speak to a supervisor, but hopefully it won't come to that and baby will just be in a bit better position.

I am going to be letting my tech know that the top of my uterus is very sensitive at my next scan. Not sure how well that will go, but I know from my toddlers leaning on it that it hurts at the slightest touch.

My very first scan I was told to eat something before hand that usually gets the baby moving. When he still showed being lazy and not in a good position, the tech had me get up and go to the bathroom. She was hoping the short walk and moving might get him moving. Maybe ask if you can try getting up for a minute and moving around.

That seems like good advice. I know its a cliché, but orange juice totally gets my bump to move more.

Wow my dr never pushed hard or hurt me and this is my third pregnancy... I wouldn't be ok with someone making me sore either!

Our baby has been TOTALLY uncooperative at every scan. Hopefully it's not a sign of things to come! :haha: At our first anatomy scan, the tech pushed pretty hard, had me roll from side to side, had me go to the restroom twice, had me walk laps around the office, had me do lunges, and finally had me "cough like I meant it" until my throat was sore. It did not help at all!

At my follow-up scan, the tech had me go to the bathroom once and roll over a couple of times. It took the full hour allotted each appointment, but they finally got the pictures they needed. I HAVE noticed that I am generally scheduling scans for the same times (10/11 am), and that the techs are never happy with her placement and stillness. I'm guessing at this point that that's her mid morning nap!! So I've tried scheduling the next one I have coming up for after lunch to see if that helps. Maybe try scheduling a different time of day? And definitely bring some OJ to the waiting room to drink ~15 minutes before they take you in.

I'm so upset. The tech was the same. I told her to not push. She did better. Baby was not cooperating. The dr came in and I guess the tech felt rushed and started pushing :( I wish I would have spoke up. My tummy hurts now.

Yeah usually they push like that when they can't get a good clear view of something. It def won't hurt baby if that's your concern, but I understand that pain:(
Later in pregnancy when the doctor or midwife checks position of baby they have to dig around in a way and really push to check position of baby, I always find that more uncomfortable, but that's just me maybe.
Either way, if you feel uncomfortable with the tech pushing too hard ask them to stop...and if they can't get a clear picture of what their looking for...oh well. Ultrasounds aren't mandatory anyways

I guess I over reacted yesterday because I'm not sore today (I was really sore the day after the scan two weeks ago). I do think my tummy is extra sensitive.
