After almost two years of NTNP and 14 mos of TTC. We are going to start looking into tests. Right now I have no sympathy for DH who gets to take his cup home with him for the SA because we live close enough to the Fertility specialist. I am more worried about what to expect from the Hysterosalpingogram. I have read the info that the Dr gave me so I understand the mechanics of it all. But my Doc sounded a bit like she was candy coating it saying that they dyes don't cause as bad of cramping like they used to. I am not so worried about the cramping that I can deal with but what should I expect from the actual procedure itself? I hate going into things blindly.

Thanks

I am in a similar situation. We've done the SA & bloods & it's now on to the more invasive testing (I think)

I've got a FS appointment in just over a week where I will hopefully find out more xx

Hi ladies. I had mine recently and I can honestly say that for me it was not much worse / different than a smear test. I was a little sore afterwards but I didn't take any pain killers at all and went straight to work. I hope it is the same for you both. On a brighter note, many ladies conceive in the next few cycles after their HSG - even if the tubes aren't blocked, small debris can be moved by the ink. My FS confirmed that point. Maybe it was OK for me as I concentrated on that side of it?

Baby dust. X

Waterfaerie - I know what youmean about DH tests! Ha ha, I know its a little embarrassing but at least its not invasive. I cant help you what the tests are like as I am only just starting the more invasive side of it. Hope it goes well.

dan-o - Im at exactly the same point as you too. In fact our first fertility specialist appointment is on the same day as yours on 7th sep!! Also at almost same stage of cycle at 6dpo today!!

Baby dust to you all
love fluffy xx

I am on Day 1 today. So I have to call Monday and make the Appt for the HSG. DH better not try to chicken out of his SA. Otherwise I will have to kill him. Maybe I should make him go with me a watch the HSG so he wont feel as bad about taking his little cup home with him. Will they let you bring some one back with you for that kind of stuff?

A may baby would be great! In fact I have already worked it out and it would be due on our wedding anniversary xx Lets hope we get a BFP just around the time of our FS appointment!!!

I had an HSG done at the beginning of the year and I have to say, it was quite painful and I'm normally quite good with pain (sorry, don't want to worry you but best to know the truth). The appointment lasts around 15 minutes so when he injected the dye and said I would feel some pressure, I thought this would last for 15 minutes. The pain was quite intense and I asked him how much longer it would last and he said just a few more seconds. So in all, the pain only lasts about 30 seconds. My only problem was that I thought it would last for 15 minutes which was more than I could handle. To me, it just felt like very intense period pains but as it only lasted for half a minute, it was ok. I felt a bit crampy afterwards and had spotting for 3-4 days after but everything was fine. I'd do it again for the peace of mind it gave me. The doctor that performed it said to me that my tubes were all clear and now was the time get trying as it essentially "clears the cobwebs" as he put it.

I know what you mean about the men. All they have to do is provide a sperm sample. I've had about 3-4 blood tests, HSG and lap and dye! They have it so much easier than us girls!!!

Good luck with it. Hope all goes well.

I don't know what a HSG is (scuse ignorance) but I've had a laparoscopy, hysteroscopy and dye injected into my Fallopian tubes. I also had endometrial patched burnt off. This was all under general anaesthetic so I have no idea if the procedures hurt me. I'm guessing yes to the laparascopic part and the burning part but I was under GA.

Becks-- The HSG or Hysterosalpingogram is the same as the Dye Test

If the SA comes back with a zero count or low count, are you still going to get the dye test? Also, I would think they would let your husband be there with you through ANY procedure. xoxo

Yes, My HSG is scheduled for this Friday. He still needs to make the appointment for his SA. I am trying to motivate him with out nagging. My window for when I can do the HSG this month is already here. So I had to make the appointment or wait till next cycle.
