Tests before referral

Hi Ladies

After getting off the phone to the docs today to clarify if I need to have anymore blood tests, she said that I do need to have CD5 tests done next cycle. If I don't get the witch this cycle (of which I will), then I will need to have CD21 tests again.

Anyway, I asked about how my referral was going and she said that I wont be referred until I have had my blood results, OH has his bits and pieces checked and then had 2 sperm samples taken.

Is this the norm?

This could take ages as there are huge waiting lists in our local hospitals. Has anyone gone private with this and what sort of prices did you pay?

I only had CD21 bloods done by my GP, and DH only had one SA done by his, before my GP referred us.

My GP referred us in October 2007, and I had my first hospital appointment in December 2007. My HSG was January 2008, and my follow up to that was March 2008. We were then referred to the only hospital that does IVF in NI, and we had our appointment there in April 2008. CD3 bloods and another SA were done in late May 2008. My DH had to have another SA done as the one that his GP ordered didn't have specific enough information - so depending on where your OH has to go will depend on the information that comes back. He may get 2 SAs done now, only to find that the hospital where you're having your treatment, needs it doing again anyway. We paid for our review appointment in June 2008 when we were placed on the waiting list for IVF. If we hadn't paid for our review appointment privately, we would have had our review appointment in approx November 2008.

We're still waiting for our IVF treatment slot to come up - only 13 and a bit months have passed ...

Oh - just thought of something else you could check with your GP ...

Why the two SA? Surely if your OH has to get two done that's going to delay things, as I'm assuming he's not going to do 2 within a week of each other? Don't they prefer a 3 month break in between?

She did say two samples over two separate weeks - this is so new to me that whatever she says, I will go with.

I have just booked up OH docs appointment for next Thursday and will ring the hospital on Monday as they are shut for appointments I will ask them then about when OH needs to do the samples xx

Yes this is the norm, we had to go through the same. I had to have cd5 and cd 21 bloods done while my oh had two sperm samples done. We had all the results back at the start of June and are still waiting for an appointment with the fs.
They did lose one of my blood results so I had to wait till the following month to do it again. If you have any questions I will be happy to help!

My gp referred me while we had the blood and sa done because he said it will makes things happen faster........because if results show a problem - we need the referral, if it doesn't show a problem......then we need a referral for further investigation - because obviously it hasn't happened. Either way at least you are in the process.
