The criminalisation of drugs

I can't stand the smell of cannabis and can't believe people feel they can still get behind the wheel of a car without a problem??????

It stinks and I would never socialise with anyone who smokes it or does any illegal drugs, I have known people in the past whos lives have been ruined by them

I dont believe they should be but my arguement against is very biased. As a nurse i have seen too many incidences of mental illness being triggered by a "lesser" drug like marijuana. Messing young people up for life. I have also seen too many people with cardiac disease brought on by cocaine.

HOWEVER, i wish it was easier to obtain marijuana based drugs like Nabilone for diseases such as multiple sclerosis, or to treat severe sickness in chemotherapy. One hospital i have worked at used to go mental when a patient arrived with nabilone (obtained privately from the States).

It should be available but obvioulsy a controlled drug. I have also recently given a patient (dying from cancer) methodone for pain relief. In medical instances i feel it is appropriate but it MUST be controlled.

I personally don't think pot is a big deal at all or in the category of other drugs.

My main view on this is that the government are hypocritical on their approach to drugs. Alcohol in my opinion is one of THE most dangerous drugs and causes the most trouble and wastes the most money (thinking about help for alcoholics on the NHS, police resources dealing with the fallout of people being drunk and disorderly etc) yet it is easily taxable and controlled so it's OK.

I can't actually think of one credible reason why cannabis is not legalized apart from the fact that it can't be controlled as it's so easy to produce therefore difficult to tax. It never killed anyone (alcohol kills thousands) it doesn't cause people to be disorderly, and the only reason it uses up police time and resources is because of the very fact that it is illegal, not for any secondary reason. I know plenty of respectable people who have families and hold down jobs and are thoroughly lovely people who unwind at night with a joint instead of a glass of wine. I can't see the problem, seriously I cant?

Not so sure about MDMA except that it would reduce the risks in ingesting the drug when you don't know what it's been cut with.

Id say about a third of the people who i know who smoked cannabis in school have literally gone of the rails, emotional paranoid wrecks, its horrible! :(

People are saying ''i dont see why its not legalised alcohol is so much worse'' but why would we want to legalise another thing thats potentially just as bad?

If that makes any sense lol.
