It seems sometimes the big things (we just started solids) aren't as overwhelmingly emotional as the little things that just sneak up. My son, at nearly five months, has begun rolling away from me in his sleep on occasion. He sprawls, half on his stomach, in a position that little boys and grownups sleep in but not babies. This is utterly independent of me...no regard is given to my presence, he's just a confident little boy sleeping as little boys do. He can't nurse in his sleep this way. He can't reach out and touch me, because he faces away. I'm obsolete at this moment. It's so beautiful and heartbreaking.
Of course, I wasn't obsolete when I had to nurse him back to sleep when he woke up sobbing an hour ago lol.
