The old battle of circumsizing a boy?

Its completely up to you and your partner being parents

But some will say (which i agree) its not your body to say what should/shouldnt be done unless a medical reason. I see this same with babies ears pierced.

Its not normal thing to me where i live (uk) x

It's not a normal thing here in the UK and it's not something we will be choosing to do if we have a son.
At the end of the day it is completely up to you and your partner.

Also I'm pretty sure there's no such thing as a 'good looking penis':haha:

It was never a question for us , we wont be but then i dont know anyone who circumsized unless medical reason and we are in uk. My parents and inlaws have many different opinions so we dont really say anything and just go on our merry way lol. Lol to good looking penis what a thing to say about your grandson

Hi! I'm no longer in second tri but thought I'd chime in as my DH and I really struggled with what to do. We are in the US which circumcision is somewhat cultural.

DH and I were not planning on circumsicing....oh my gosh, all hell broke loose. Both sets of grandparents told us we should...but I just didn't hear a good enough reason from either. We talked to the dr who said it isn't medically nessecary and actually a cosmetic procedure.

We did end up circumsicing but for our own reasons after hours of research and a few discussions with people who were not judgemental. It is your and your DH descision.

Good luck! And congratulations on your baby boy :happydance:

If this one is a boy he will be circumcised. My reasons is that I do not have a penis and do not know what it is like to have one. So I give that responsibility to OH. He is the expert on living with a penis not me. And he wants his boy circumcised. To be honest I prefer that but if he said no then I would listen to him.

I had a friend who choose it later in life and said he was so happy with his foreskin being gone.

But no matter what its nobodys decision but yours and your hubbys. Don't let other people influence you.

On this side of the atlantic it's totally normal for a boy NOT to be circumcised, it is only done here for religious or medical reasons (one of my nephews had it done because his foreskin was so tight it was constantly infected, but his brother has not been circumcised as there was no need). I don't even know many women over here who have even seen a circumcised penis if I'm honest, I know I never have! I say it's your decision and you shouldn't let it be swayed by other peoples' opinions!

I love this! Cause I actually say it the other way. lol I have never seen an uncircumcised penis. And I have had one friend who "encountered" one one time. lol And I only know a friend who is not. But he does get made fun of. They call it an ant eater. lol

Shows the differences in other parts of the world. I am in Canada so its pretty normal to be circumcised here.

I've never seen a circumsised penis I don't think lol..

I'm in Canada also and I have heard it called that as well. But my dh is not circumcised and he's never been made fun of or had any weird reactions. I think it is a very high percentage of people who have their Boys circumcised here and I don't get it. Lol. I've seen/been with both ways and I must say I think the natural way is much better...im confused why so many ladies are weirded out by it :P lol ...
I just hope when people decide what to do with their baby boy that they aren't thinking so much about looks rather, but about the medical, religious, hygienic reasons
....i just cant imagine if someone had cut off a little piece of ME because they thought it looked funny......ouchy! Lol

O wow. I'm with the same issue. My husband is American so he was circumcised but I'm European so everyone on my side has never been. He wants to do it and im against it. I just don't see the point of doing it and causing pain to the newborn. My husband's stand is that he wants them to look the same but i really don't know if i can do it for our baby just for the looks of the penis. I don't know how this is going to end.

All adult penis's look like baby vultures in nests, not even a Bow and a Ribon could make it good look lol, I would agree with other posters, I wouldn't even discuss with family about this decision. Do what you feel is right x

My son is not circumsized. If my new little one is a boy, he wont be either. If my boys get older and decide for themselves that its embarrassing and they want to be circumsized, then we can do it at that time.

Thank you for each one of your responses!

I wrote this in complete agitation but now that I read my originally post it cracks me up! Good looking P what a nut to say that. Anyway it was a lesson learned no matter how close certain family members are that we will not be discussing are decision with anyone.

I am also from the United States Washington area and it more of a culture thing here, there are no medical benefits and it more of a cosmetic procedure. If my son later in life decides he would like to be circumcised as an adult that will be his choice. The way "I feel" is it is not my place to make a decision to have part of him cut because that what generations have done in "are family" anymore then I refused to pierce my daughter ear's when she was a infant, that will be her choice when she is older. I respect everyone decisions and views on this sensitive matter and enjoyed reading a wide variety's of your views. :winkwink:

I've never seen an uncircumcised penis but I've seen pictures... Lol. It's pretty gross.

I am also from the US so it's quite normal here to circumcise the penis without putting much thought into it. If we were having a boy, we weren't going to. But this was medical reasoning. My fiance has a blood clotting disorder. And if the baby has it, there could be a chance he would bleed out during the procedure and I don't want to chance that! They would have to do testing when he was first born before the procedure and I didn't want him to go through with that.

But we are having a girl so I don't need to worry about it lol!

I'm from the UK where circumcision is pretty uncommon unless for religious reasons and I have found its really frowned upon. For religious reasons my son is circumcised and I never have really made a issue of telling my family apart from my mom because I knew they would all want to have their opinion like it mattered and tbh its not like no1 was going to change his nappy any time soon its none of their business.

I also would like to add that its quite difficult in my area to find medical advice about this as I had to travel to a predominantly asian community to find a practice that did the procedure.

If any ladies from the UK have any advice on how to find local information that would be great :)

It's not even a thing over here, we just don't do it unless it's medically necessary o.o. I don't see why you would mutilate your child in all honesty.

I've never seen an uncircumcised penis but I've seen pictures... Lol. It's pretty gross.

Wow... Just no.

My thoughts exactly! My husband is not circumsized and its not gross. When they are erect you cant even tell the difference...

Anyways. When i was pregnant with my first son, I really wanted to get him circumsized. I didnt have any legit reasoning behind it besides thats what your supposed to do. My husband of course was against it. Then when I was about 6 months pregnant I had a nightmare that the doctors were circumsizing my son and he was screaming and bleeding and crying and reaching for me. Yep. Once i woke up from that nightmare i was freaked out and swore i would never do that to my son. And he is intact :)

If he gets a little older like in high school and is embarrassed and wants to get circumsized we will do it then, under general anesthesia.

I was in the room when my nephew had it done and to be honest he was only pissed about being restrained. The second he was let go he was fine. They numb the area and the baby doesnt feel a thing

An intact penis is gross, but a penis whose glans has scabbed over and dried out (circumcised), due to exposure, isn't? That makes zero sense and adds to the stereotype, of the US, in which boys should be ashamed because they have their *whole* penis.

I'm baffled at all of the comments saying they (or their husbands) want their son's penis to look just like Dad's. No two penises look alike. Their dad also has pubic hair surrounding their penis. Is Dad going to shave his hair off so that his penis resembles his son's?

What if your son has a different eye color than their dad? Shall you insert colored contacts so that their eyes look alike? Why not? They see their dad's eyes MUCH more than they will ever see their dad's penis.

If your daughter's breasts are not as large as yours, will you allow her to get implants? Why not? Shouldn't your daughter look just like you? What if her vulva is different? Will you have her undergo a labiaplasty so that her private parts can look like Mom's?

Yes, all of those questions are absurd because removing a functioning organ *just so the boy will look like his dad* is asinine to me, especially when there is no medical need to do so.

The HIV study was flawed. Circumcised men were told to either abstain from sexual intercourse, during the study, OR use condoms, whereas intact men were given no such guidelines. I would never teach a son of mine to rely on his foreskin status to protect himself from STD's.

There *is* a minute increase in penile cancer in the intact male, but his chances of breast cancer (yes, breast cancer) are higher than that. IMO, circumcising a newborn to prevent penile cancer is the equivalent of having your newborn baby girl undergo a double mastectomy to prevent breast cancer (which is MUCH more common than penile cancer).
