:hi: I was wondering if you girls knew why some women have long and irregular cycles?

I've had my hormones checked and got all the bloodwork done and everything seems normal. I have some signs of PCOS (acne, insulin resistance, overweight, skin tags, depression in the past, pelvic pain etc) but my doc says I don't have it since I have kids and he said it's a "trashcan" diagnosis made by doctors that don't know what's wrong with their patients ... :nope: nice doctor, right?

I'm not saying I have PCOS, specialy since my hormone levels are ok, but I just have a feeling something isn't right ... I can't explain it.

I'm not stressed, my thyroid is fine ... then what's the deal with my 30-130 day cycles?

When I got PG with my younger daughter I had 1 period for the whole 6 months we were TTC but we just BD's every day (or every other day at least) just in case, and it worked .. but .. ughh I don't know, just seems weird, right?

I'm sorta pissed now that I didn't at least use OPK's back then to see if I was ovulating because now I have no idea if I ovulate each cycle or just 2-3 times a year or whatever.

Ok I'm rambling .. bottom line: Are there other explanations for long cycles?

Just because you have kids doesnt mean you dont have PCOS.
You can get normal bloodwork but still have PCOS, you'll need an ultrasound to see if theres any cysts there.

Oh sorry I forgot to mention, he did a 5 second ultrasound and said there were no cysts, I didn't see the monitor. I have had a large cyst that burst (ouch) and I sometimes get similar pains as I got then. The doc said those cysts didn't count.

you could just be naturally irregular...and be fine. I am paranoid too that something could be wrong with me, and I even, was thinking about going to see a doc just to check everything and make sure my hormone levels are good, and that everything else looks alright. I always have cramping pains, and acne throughout my cycle + irregular periods. I have been testing to see when I O, so far I have been unsuccessful :(

I am irregular but I do have hormone issues and all the other lovely things that go with PCOS.

Maybe try a second opinion with another doctor. (I see what the first doctor was saying about it being a very generic diagnosis however it also seems like he'd never even consider it unless you had every single possible symptom anyway. :hugs:

Have you always had irregular cycles? (I have. I average 6-9 months between cycles.)

Yeah, it's always been like this since they started. Some years I have 2-3 cycles per year and some years they're pretty consistant, 30-40 days.

And you said that you had a cyst before? Hmmm... I am no doctor but I would be a little more caring that your current doc is. I am really suggesting trying another doctor for a second opinion and maybe have some of the blood work redone if needed too just to be sure.

I feel blessed to finally have a good doctor. I never could find one when I was in the lower 48 but finally now I do have someone who is taking my problems seriously so heres hoping it helps us conceive!

Yeah, I'm really tired of doctors that make me feel like an idiot.
