The Ultimate "Driving Test" Thread!

Can I ask what the theory test is like in the UK?

Here they give you the Highway Code, and they also give you a list of 180 questions with yes/no answers. You're told they will choose 30 of those questions, and you have to just say yes or no to each. You then need to identify 10 road signs. I have been told the theory in the UK is a lot harder, but I don't know how it's structured.

In the UK its in 2 parts. The first part is questions that are randomly picked from the Highway Code and are multi-choice. [Some are identifying road signs too] The second part to the theory test is 'hazard perception' where you are shown a series of clips and you have to click the computer mouse when you see a hazard - it is to test you notice the hazards on the road in time. :) xx

Good luck hun mine is in november its already stressing me out thinking about it!!!!

I've not booked mine yet, will probably do it tomorrow. I've decided to up my lessons to 2 a week, so hopefully by doing that, I'll definitely be fine next test.

I had my first driving lesson today since I failed my test in 2007. Didn't start off too well - I forgot what order the pedals were in and tried to drive off before putting the car into gear. I drove around at 20mph in 2nd gear for 45 minutes then finally got up to 4th gear and 30mph ( much to the relief of the tailback behind ) Next lesson on monday and I am determined that I will pass my test - just not sure when!!

Is the theory test really still multi choice, I thought the multi choice style had been scrapped to make it harder? Result if it is as Im starting up lessons again after a few years break and heard something back then that the theory was due to get alot tougher.

it was still multi-choice when i did mine in Feb 2010 :) i think they added the hazard perception to make it tougher? tbh i was shitting myself about the theory test and found it quite tough even with multi choice hehe :) xxxx thinking on it though i remember my last instructor mentioning something about them making it harder in the future...so maybe there is worse to come????

jeez must have been at least 5 years ago when i did lessons last and im sure the hazard perception was the same as i was practicing it online back then along with the multi choice. im worried now! anyone done their theory recently?

Iv not read this all yet, but yes it is multiple choice. I passed mine today :happydance:

Off to read this thread now :flower:

Oh and now my test is booked for November

Oh I watched this film last night called "Happy Go Lucky" and it was funny as hell. The woman was taking driving lessons and her driving instructor was some racist, anger infested guy who just seemed to be in the wrong profession lol! It was really funny though. Told my driving instructor to watch it.
I am going to watch this, my first driving instructor was racist and sexist and well rude  I only did two lessons with him

Read it all now. Congrats to all that have passed, :hugs: to all those that didnt and good luck to those whos tests are coming up.

The theory test in the UK is there are 50 multiple choice questions (out of 900 odd possible ones), and you need 43+ to pass, then after that youhave hazard perception which is clicking when you see a hazard, there are 14 clips and 13 of those have a single hazard and you can get up to 5 points, one has two hazards and you can get up to 10 points in that one. You need a minimum of 44 points from the hazard perception

I'm going to book my test next week, I think I book them too quickly, I get all worked up and I get left over anxiety festering until I explode on the next test, so I'm going to take a week or so to not think about driving tests, then next week, start a clean slate and then book one then.
I bought the Rescue Remedy Spray today from H&B so that's all sorted for my lessons and for whenever my test is. It better work, at £9.20, I'll be complaining highly and demanding my money back if it doesn't help make me feel all tranquil and soothed lol!

I was only doing 1 hour once a week when I did lessons last but want to get serious this time, do you think x2 2hr lessons per week would be just right?

LOL Lula, I would too complain if at that price it doesnt work. I think a break is probably best, how long is the wait where you are?

Georgey I do 4 hours a week, and I progressed so fast.

Now Ive just got to go ahead and book them, Im scared to make that step though eeeks! Luckily Ive moved to a quiet village perfect for lessons, last time I was plunged in the deep end driving round a busy industrial state in Crawley, I was traumatised last time by some wnker in a lorry honking and shouting abuse at me at roundabout, I was so freaked I stalled!
