The Ultimate "Driving Test" Thread!

Hi girls, can I join you in here :flower:
I'm starting an intensive driving course on Monday, 4hrs a day for 5 days then my test the following Monday!
I chose this way because I've been trying to learn to drive for years, in total I've had about 40/50hrs worth of lessons, but I always stop for some reason, either money or I loose patience.
My last lesson was about a year ago and I was so so close to my test, I was pretty much just brushing up on maneovures, I am so mad myself for quitting.
Now I'm preg again, OH has paid for the course so that I can just get it all over and done with, it doesn't give me a chance to give up!
I'm absolutely cacking myself though!! I've got terrible morning sickness which doesn't help, and I'm worried that I'm just going to be rubbish!
I'm hoping that the basics will come back to me pretty quickly, just the more technical things I need to relearn.

How do they set out the practical tests now? I heard they changed it since I was last driving so you don't have 2 maneovures anymore and something else is included? Is that right? X

Hey now you a theory test (you probably already did that? You can't sit practical without it) but for the practical you do it for 30-40 minutes and you get one manouver, a 10 minute independant drive and could be asked to do an emergency stop (they say you probably wont get one but i got one 3/4 of my tests and my first one was going to get it but someone was behind me so couldnt) ... Think thats it - the independant drive is when you either follow road signs or follow a diagramme e.g. go right, left, right :hugs: Good luck x

Thanks hun, yeh my theory test is done, it actually expires in march lol.
How did you find the independent driving bit?
That bit sounds scary to me! I'm useless with directions and in a panic I always mix up my left and rights :dohh: this is going to be interesting!! x

Suprisingly independent drive was okay! I struggle with left and right to, still use my hands to make an L shape when I drive  But its fine, in one of my tests I asked the examiner to help me if i seemed to struggle with telling left from right :haha: he didn't need to but it was good to have that bit of help if needed :flower: In one of my tests i read roadsigns and its simple enough (thought i would be crap at it but it was fine). The examiner might help you, i said, i missed that sign what exit am i taking and he told me  and the directions one they tell you 3 bits at a time and again they will most likely help, in my last one i was like so this exit? and she was like "yes, and remember the next one is the 2nd road on the left" :haha: They wouldn't fail you on it so long as its done safely anyway :hugs:

Oh thats put my mind to rest a little! Thanks hun. Its funny because I'm fine with the driving etc, I just am terrible with taking directions and listening to what they're telling me  think I I could just take them on my own little tour of my town of be fine!! Lol.
Got my first day Monday, start 8:30am-12pm.... I am not going to be at my best that early!! :dohh: X

I found independent driving part the easiest xx

You get 2 questions now, a show me and a tell me.

40mins driving

1 reverse technique

and about 10mins independent driving and they ask you what signs to follow.

I was sooo nervous about the show me/tell me part!! I think they asked me to show how to de-mist the back window and tell them how to check the head lights and tail lights were on/working! My instructor said they probably wouldn't ask me any under-the-bonnet questions because it was raining! (and they didn't - phew!) All the show me/tell me Q's and A's are online though, I was learning them but still so nervous about them!

My Independant drive wasn't so bad because I knew the area really well anyway, which helped. I just had to get to the town centre from the test centre (I did my independant drive first) and I knew the way anyway so just had to glance the signs for confirmation. I think it would be alot harder for me if I was taking the test in another town and had to get somewhere :\ I was also doing practice independant driving with my b/f leading up to the test hehe where he'd tell me to go from A to B etc etc :)

Only 1 manouevure and I got the three-point-turn/turn in the road on both of my tests!

On my first test I got asked to do the emergency stop, I think he said it's a 1 in 3 chance you get asked. I didn't have to do it on my second test.

Good Luck! xx

Haha think I must be a strange statistic! I would have had to do an emergency stop in all mine (but wasn't able in 1st one), and my friend got 3/4 of hers and OH 2/3 of his :haha: Maybe in my town we are more likely to need an emergency stop after the test with all the kids no one seems to look after :dohh:
Plus I never realized how ANNOYING kids playing chicken were before i started lessons/passed .... on almost everyone of my lessons 5 minutes would be wasted because of a child lying in the middle of the road :dohh: Has anyone here had to do an emergency stop for real before? in a lesson or their own car? I'm terrified of this because theres a big difference of someone telling you its safe to do an emergency stop than you randomly slamming the breaks and a car behind you might bang into you and this thought terrifies me! :dohh:

Oh in my first and second test i got a reverse around a corner and my 3rd and 4th got the bay park, I got every one of the examiners you could get in my centre as well! How sad is that, people were talking about who they had in their tests and i was like "Oh i had her, and him, and her and him  :haha: ..they were like how did you have them all and I was like "they all wanted to meet me lol"

I had to do a real emergency stop a few weeks ago! A woman pulled out of a side road on a 40mph road without looking and I had to slam the brakes on she pulled out like a second in front of me. It was SO scary, there were cars behind me but luckily at a far enough distance. I kind of messed it up though, and kept my foot on the brake too long and skidded a bit. Not dangerously skidded, but enough to be scary.

Oh God! :nope: People can be such idiots! Hope your okay! :hugs: was that long after you passed? x

I passed at beginning of Nov and it was about a week before xmas! I was a bit shaken up. She was an idiot I saw her just come to the end and drive straight out! I think because I've only just passed i'm driving a bit cautious anyway - my boyfriend is much more relaxed when he drives because he passed 10 years ago! Not saying he isnt cautious, but he just seems more at ease etc

Yeah I am totaly cautious when i drive, my sister hasnt even done lessons and she is like omg your being too slow! - pardon me for doing the speed limit!! and she was like oh you could go there when theres a car coming :dohh: I'm right up at the steering wheel whereas everyone i know is a mile away from it :haha:

haha sitting up towards the steering wheel? I do that :D My b/f always tells me to sit back and I just cant!! I tried a couple of times and just cant relax!!! I drive much better sat forward hehe xx

Same here, people say it makes me look nervous but its how i feel comfortable, when the seats back i end up sitting like i normally would anyway - practically out of the windscreen! :haha:

I drive like that too. I only passed in December but I had an emergency stop too when a kid ran out in the road! Bloody awful but it was either someone bash my car or run over a kid!

I passed December but haven't been in the car much, only 2-3 times, getting insured on my OH begining of Feb :) But Kids that don't watch the road do my head in! That kid that ran infront of my mum is only like 3 years old (he lives down the street) and he ran after his ball from behind a 7 seater car, she did an emergency stop. The kid looked up looking terrified, I was all for reporting the D!pshit mother who was drinking in her garden at the time (summer time) and she was like "oh kids eh?" (all slurred coz of the drinking) and its like haa, you not looking after your kid meant me and my mum got whiplash, my mums disabled so the whiplash impacted her neck which ran down her back making her bed wridden for that week! OH WELL....kids will be kids! :growlmad:

I PASSED!!! :D :happydance:

I got 4 Minors. It was one of those tests where I couldn't really tell what the outcome would be. Was proper shaking when we got back to the test centre and was sure I was going to hear those horrible words again but then when he said "I'm pleased to tell you......" I literally squealed!

Yaaaaaay! I'm finally a member of the pink licence club and it feels fantastic. I was shaking so much when he told me I could barely sign the health declaration sheet lol!

Thanks so much for all your support ladies, you've been fantastic. xxxxxxxxx :hugs:
