Hello all, this is my first post in the LTTTC forums, it's been 17 cycles so far and I've had everything but a Laparoscopy and had normal results on everything. Barring Lap results (and I don't have any Endo symptoms, we just have nothing else left to check!) I'm apparently perfectly fertile, and so is hubby, but no baby let alone even a hint of a positive test ever! It's actually extremely frustrating, like, if we could just figure out the problem, we could fix it! You know? I know it's not that simple, but argh!

My official medical diagnosis is 'Unexplained First Degree Infertility". Anyone else?

Me! 25 months, all tests are good, and one BFP that I got to enjoy for 1 day before I miscarried. It is so frustrating, isn't it? At least having a name for something helps you find the right solution

You're not alone. Over 3 years ttc #1 and never a single flippin' BFP!

I've had all normal testing done, too. I say the same thing - if I don't know what's wrong, how can I fix it?!

Thanks for replying!

Uuuugh you've both been waiting much longer than I have! I hope none of us have to wait for much longer...

Lola13 I see in your sig you had Clomid AND IUI this cycle and you're 11 DPO! If I were you I'd have probably tested 1,000 times already, this HAS to be it! Super fingers crossed you have a bean and it's one that sticks! :hugs:

Nvr2late I hope your next BFP is this cycle and you will get to hold that baby and raise it and beyond! :hugs:

Me too!! 2 years of TTC and 2 failed IUIs. At first we thought we had MF bt that got ruled out when hubby's SA was done at a diff clinic. Had the third IUI this cycle. Am on day10piui . Already think it wont work. I am 33, DH is 35. So its not like we are over the hill yet. Its very frustrating. Going in for a Lap next cycle to check for Endo. Though I do have a polyp in the uterus but thats too small for docs to think it might be a problem. Getting it removed anyway. I did post a thread on something called Fallopian sperm infusion which is a treatment particularly efficient for Unexplained.

Looknomore I hope your Lap goes well and the polyp removal turns out to be the magic trigger for conception. :hugs:

I'm on the chopping block for an exploratory Lap in September myself, do you have a journal I can stalk?

Me too .... almost 6 years TTC #1 - 3 failed IVF cycles, and the fourth just round the corner. It doesn't get any easier to deal with - in fact for me, it's got even more frustrating.

I hope your journey is much shorter than mine.

xx

Hey Maz..sorry to hear about ur failed IVFs. It must be devastating. I feel so scared of going in for an IVF just thinking it might not work. I hope this one works for you:hugs:

Lilaala- No i dont have a journal. Infact to be honest I try to keep away from this forum also as much I can. I have seen that it adds to my stress and I think about the baby thing too much as it is. Not denying that one gets a lot of info here but mind just gets flooded with too much negativity :sad2:

Well, apparently clomid plus IUI was the magic trick for me - :bfp: this morning at 13DPO :)

I wanted to share this thread with you from the TTC 35+ Board. I've thought that cervical mucous could have been my issue. I keep hearing more & more about hostile CM killing off the sperm, but few doctors test it. If that was my problem, maybe that's why IUI worked. Well, I saw this thread last night & was certainly going to get the book if this cycle failed.

Good luck, everyone!

we are unexplained too and it is so difficult, we've been trying since aug 07. all tests fine, have tried 3 cycles of clomid, and had 1 iui, hopefully 2nd in a wks time.

good luck to you all

xx

Oh hell ya, I'm in the limbo! Nearly 3 years with no explanation. Though ultrasound recently revealed only 7 follicles overall, which is below average but dr said this doesn't explain why we haven't conceived as my FSH levels are 'perfect'. So onto our first round of IVF soon.

It's horribly frustrating cos you have nothing to hold onto. No way of thinking 'eventually I'll be fixed' cos you simply don't know what's broken. I just pray to God IVF works, I dread the idea of going through more then 2 rounds. My only consolation is that success rates in IVF for unexplained are higher then most other 'diagnoses'.

But your sig says you're pregnant!

Is it? cos my doc sys the success rate is the same as for MF or any other prob

Hi looknomore

At first I was given the impression that 'unexplained's' had a better chance of success with IVF than those with a found cause, but then I found out after 3 failed cycles that it makes no difference what the diagnosis is, the overall chance of success is the same. I think if there is a problem with the womb or the endo lining then that might have an impact. The success rates quoted are an overall percentage that includes all diagnoses.

Sorry Trix, I really hope that doesn't dishearten you. It certainly wasn't intended in that way.

xx

Well guys I am in the same boat, hopefully we can all row to the BFP line!! its really fustrating aint it, I always try to look on the + side at least we have a maybe chance some people don't even have that. Hopefully we shall get there in the end. It would be nice to talk to each other to vent the fustration! Just look at Lola with her BFP after 3+ years xx

That's ok Maz, I've been reading mixed results. I gota stop reading about success rates and accept everyone's different. :-)

That's the best way Trix ... At the end of the day, when you get your embies put back - and I'm sure you will - you have as much chance as the next person of it working.

xx

Ha ha, hubby got his in-depth sperm results back and they're perfect, and a little bit of me was disappointed. Is that bad? I mean surely they'll find something wrong with us?

I mustn't moan, so damn lucky we don't have any notable problems. But sometimes, doncha wish for something, anything?

But yeah, yomo, you're so right, at least we're not totally ruled out. x

From the tests we have had so far it tooks as though we are in the "unexplained" too.

I think though your state of mind can have a lot to do with it and if your life is too stresfull with other unavoidable things (such as work) you can be medically fertile but mentally infertile! There you go I have invented a whole new diagnosis!!! I think the body is clever and holds off until both the body and mind are in the right place. I think thats my problem, no matter how much I really want to be pregnant.

Love and babydust
