Hi girls,

I just posted this in the baby /toddler forum, but had some questions regarding BFing, that I thought you could help me with... so posting here to (any advice is helpful!!!)

https://www.babyandbump.com/baby-to...-cold-please-help-any-advice.html#post2263458

I think my newborn has a cold and he has been sleeping WAY more than normal, I woke him last night after 5 hours for a feed.

Since yesterday he has been feeding less.... instead of taking 2 boobs at one eating he has only been taking one... so I fear he may not be eating enough.

He has been feeding around 8 times a day (but Im concerned 1 boob may be a little less than he needs).... am I right?!

Also, if he sleeps over 4 hours, do you think its best I wake him for another feed? Or maybe wake him every 2 hours?

AND my last question...... how long can I store pumped milk in the fridge? Ive checked online and they all say different amounts.

Thanks alot, xxxxxxxx

hi :hi: My LO was very grunty/snorty the first few weeks, but paediatritian said some babies are just like that and it will clear as the mucus/birth crap clears from his system....and it did :D He still has grunty moments and sneezes a few times every day but he is otherwise a content babe and the health visitor has no concerns.
As for feeding, he also only takes one boob at each sitting and normally feeds for 10mins on average but HV says he must have a good suck as he obvs is getting what he needs as he is putting on weight. He would also happily sleep more than 5hrs between feeds the first few weeks if allowed so I would wake him every 3hrs during the day but leave him for 6hrs at night....now he wakes every 3hrs no matter what!

it may not be a cold. newborns often have snuffles from all the particles in the air their lungs just aren't used to it so they'll sniff and sneeze. He could be sleeping more as you're in the 10th day growth spurt area. either way. your baby will eat as much as he can. babies are supposed to self regulating as they don't have the same kind of concept of food as we do. You may want to keep offering at regular intervals to ensure he's taking fluid. Keep your eye on his nappies, plenty of wet ones (if he's in the growth spurt you may find he won't do a poop for a day or 2). Hope he's better soon :hugs:

It sounds perfectly normal to me babe, little and often is fine, don't be tempted to switch breasts too soon as baby may not get enough fatty hindmilk from the 1st breast. Erin only fed off one side each feed for the 1st couple of months to be honest, I think the others were the same.

Snuffles are awful at 1st, all that mucous etc. It usually all comes up one day when you're not expecting it:hissy:, a big puke full of slimy mucous and then they seem to be much better after that. So don't be alarmed when/if this happens:dohh:

Don't doubt yourself honey....be confindent

Thank you all so much!!!!!!!

Yesterday was a tough day as I was doubting he was getting enough, but the nappies tell me he is eating enough ;)

Thanks again to you all, xxxxx :hugs:
