What were your LO's symptoms and how were they when diagnosed?

I'm wondering if Ava has a CMPI. She has always had tummy issues. She had terrible colic and silent reflux and we're still battling the reflux.

She often screams out in pain randomly, she writhes around in pain, cries when passing wind and pooing, has silent reflux, excessively gassy, cradle cap, coughs a lot, sneezes all the time and is prone to gammy eyes.

Perhaps I'm reading too much in to things but this has been going on a while and its getting no better. Every feed is a battle, the docs are useless and just keep prescribing gaviscon and laxatives cos the gaviscon bungs her up badly. She needs 2 sachets per feed and she still has issues.

I've read that over half of refluxers suffer with a CMPI. I'm going back to see a different doc next week to ask for a hypoallergenic formula. Either Aptamil Pepti or Neocate.

I just wondered what your experiences were and if I was right in asking for a hypoallergenic formula??

Hey hon :hugs:

Nim had a variety of issues, as you know the reflux etc is still a huge issue, but its more to do with the immaturity of gut etc thats linked to CMPI rather than hypoallergenic formula curing the reflux iykwim?

Nim had bad skin - blotchy and dry and rashy, very mucusy, coughed, sneezed, hiccups, gas, colic, tummy cramps and stomach pain. Within 48h of being off my milk and onto Neocate the tummy cramps etc had reduced and her gas improved. Within a week her skin was better.

We took her to a paediatrician who specializes in allergies and gastroenterology. He used skin prick testing to highlight her sensitivities (Dairy, eggs and gluten. And my milk)

I would certainly take her to a different Dr, and if you can afford it I'd go straight to a paed who will be a little more 'pro-active' towards the reflux as well as a possible allergy.
Imho I think they should be at least considering Ranitadene for Ava, if not Omeprazol.

Thanks hun :flower: I'm defo going back I'm sick of being fobbed off!

Was wondering whether to try a soya or LF formula see if it would help with the excessive gas, tummy cramps and poop issues but I'm a bit scared to!

She defo has digestive issues which I dont think help the silent reflux. I also have coeliac disease and pretty sure an intolerance to some dairy products so I think in light of my allergies they should at least test her xx

PS poor Nim :( she looks so happy and gorgeous in your profile pic its hard to believe all of her probs you must be exhausted I know I am! xxx

Yeah, its pretty tiring and sometimes so depressing, but shes such a lovely little girlie when shes happy it makes up for the screaming fits! Ava is so gorgeous too

If your coeliacs then its very likely shes got sensitivities. I'm sensitive to eggs and dairy and thats where Nim gets it from - poor love, why she couldn't have her Dads appetite and iron tummy I do not know!

If I was you I'd gp to the Dr and demand meds for reflux and in light of the fact you're coeliac say you want her tested (or put in hypoallergenic formula as a trial) as she seems to have extreme digestive issues.

Neocate is great digestively but pretty foul tasting and smells gross  it can take a little while (and some brown sugar/golden syrup/vanilla) to 'convince' LO that they want to drink it.
Its also amazing for weight gain, Nim takes less than 25oz daily (often less than 20oz) and voms up to 2/3 of each bottle back up and is staying steady on the 45% for weight.

You could try soy but 50% of babies who have CMPI also can't tolerate soy. It also tends to be constipating (that's what happened to my LO along with the fussiness, gas, bloating, etc).
I would definitely go back & demand a hypoallergenic formula. Good luck!

I'd demand a true hypoallergenic formula, either nutramigen AA or neocate, pepti is extensively hydrolysed but is still based on CMP at the end of the day xx

Holly has a suspected CMPI but has never been tested for it. When she was about 4 weeks I thought she might have lactose intolerance (as I am quite sensitive to dairy), and she was prescribed Aptamil Pepti. It was horrendous though, she rarely did a poo and when she did it was terrible mess lol. She also had foul smelling gas and seemed to have a lot of tummy pains. She was switched on to Nutramigen AA (same thing as Neocate) about 6 weeks ago, and seems a bit better. Although now she has constipation and needs lactulose on a regular basis. Her wind doesn't smell at all though. She also has silent reflux and we tried to take her off ranitidine recently. She's still suffering though, so the HV said to put her back on it before she sees the doctor next week to see if it makes a difference. Drives me barmy not knowing exactly whats up with her. Good luck at the docs x x

Ps, they might want to try Pepti first as it's cheaper than Nutramigen AA or Neocate (which both cost about £35 a tin!!) but as mentioned before it's not totally CMP free, just heavily broken down...

Thanks girls - after a night of listening to Ava cry out in pain through the night and screaming all morning I'm trying the Wysoy. It can't hurt but defo off to the docs. It's gone on long enough.

I noticed soon as she starts feeding she gets all pink and blotchy round her eyes and on random parts of her cheeks so there's something going on for sure xx
