Hi everyone,

I need some thoughts on the names we chose, please :)

A little context: both me and my husband are Russian, but live in England (and don't plan on moving any time soon). Our daughter will be able to choose where she wants to live when she grows up, as she will have three citizenships (Russia, US and EU), which cover most of the world :) So we need a name that will work in most languages (although English is the most important) and will still sound adequate in Russian. Our top three at the moment are:

Alisa
Vera
Sofia

What do you think of this spelling? How would you pronounce them?

I would pronounce Alisa as (Uh-leesa), Vera (veer-uh) and Sofia (sow-fee-uh).

I'm most fond of the first two :)

Ah-lis-uh
Vair-uh
So-fee-uh

I like Sofia out of your choices. I'd probably spell Alisa as 'Alissa' if you are wanting it to be pronounced Ah-lis-uh.

Lovely choices!! I like all of them.

Alisa (Ah-liss-ah)
Vera (veer-ah, although vair-ah is also used here in Canada)
Sofia (so-fee-ah)

I like them all, but due to there being an Alissa and a Sofia in my sons class, I prefer Vera of the three! Plus I like old fashioned names, so that sways me even more :p

Ah-lee-sa
Veer-ah
So-fee-ah

I like Alisa and Sofia, not crazy about Vera as I can't picture it on a baby/little girl.

my friend has a sofia so fee er. its nice xx

Ah-lee-sa
Veer-ah
So-fee-ah

I like Alisa and Sofia, not crazy about Vera as I can't picture it on a baby/little girl.

I would pronounce the same as above and I also prefer Sofia & Alisa.

Sofia gets my vote, it was the name we had picked out for a little girl :) Both DH and I are English but would have spelt it in the same way you have

In terms of pronunciation, I would say sof-ee-ah x

As an American, I like and would pretty easily be able to pronounce all three. I think Vera (vair-uh) is my favorite!

My daughter is called sofia, so is obviously my favourite. How about Saskia?

Thanks everyone for your replies! :) We've decided to wait until we meet our baby girl and then decide which one suits her best.

My daughter is called sofia, so is obviously my favourite. How about Saskia?

I like Saskia, but it doesn't exist in Russian, and we want to keep it more or less traditional for both languages\countries.

Uh-liss-uh
Vairuh (vair like hair)
Sow-FEE-uh

Lots of people call my daughter Sophia though her name is just Sophie. The phie is soft in Sophie and emphasised in Sophia. I don't like the name Sophia at all which is kinda funny.
