Hello Ladies,
I am 39 weeks along and been suffering badly from constipation and hemorrhoids for the last 3-4 weeks. Have had them on and off through the pregnancy but in no way as bad as this and have also had the odd bout before I was pregnant but always knew how to handle them until now.

Firstly sorry about being so graphic but hoping that some of you are experiencing the same thing and can offer advise as I am petrified of going through birth with the pain of this to contend with aswell!

On Monday I had a big urge to pass a stool I tried not to strain but it wanted to come out and after alot of pain it did and I was left with what can only be described as a bunch of grapes and one very sore one. Doctor had a look and confirmed that the really sore one was thrombosed and gave me some creams and an external and internal rectal foam to use. I also have spent the last few days drinking litres of water/prune juice, eating loads of fibre and doing everything I can to soften the stools. This morning I went to the toilet, passed a smaller stool and the pain was excruciating once again. The hemorrhoid must have burst as the toilet was was bright red and when I wiped was the same.

I now feel raw and sore again and just miserable. I am trying to keep positive as I move forward to the birth but this this is taking over all my thoughts and I am crying my eyes out every day. I know theres not much that can be done before the birth but it just seems so unfair to have this on top of everything else so late in the pregnancy

What are people with this problem eating to help to soften the stools as I think thats the main problem and if you have any other tips for shrinking these little buggers I'd appreciate the advise.

My thoughts go out to anyone who is in the same position right now as its just awful.

Orange juice is really good for softening the stools, not the stuff from concentrate but proper OJ like Tropicana. You could also try lactulose as well, I think you can get it over the counter from Boots and it's perfectly safe in pregnancy. You poor thing :( :hugs:

Thanks so much I'll try both of those suggestions. Really at my wits end with this. No pun intended! xxx

i have been exactly the same, got dressed to go out this morning and just burst into tears. The pain is awful.
I asked my MW about it last week and she just said it was down to pressure of the baby (i'm 39 weeks today) and to use anusol. I've been using it though and it is useless!!!!
I found some relief by using witch hazel, i think it should help with the bleeding aswell. Soak some cotton wool balls in distilled witch hazel, (i picked up a bottle from sainsburys for about £1.50) freeze them, then put one directly on the culprit and let it defrost. Its a bit of a shock at first but does help!!
The things we have to go through..will be worth it in the end!
