Hi ladies, just after son advice. We have a doctor appointment Monday morning anyhow.

My son is 3 weeks old. He had a small spit up in his first week or so. Nothing to be concerned about.

Then, this past Thursday night, DH had gone to bed and I was changing DS on the couch when he spit up a lot. It was over him, the area of the couch he was on and the floor. He had eaten maybe 15 minutes prior and the milk came up looking like fresh milk. Now this night we did give a bottle of expressed breast milk so I thought maybe he ate too much and that's why he threw it up. He wanted more from the breast after having the expressed milk in his bottle.

Then this morning I fed him from the breast. Maybe ten minutes later DH was changing him and he threw up all over DH side of the bed :-( it looked like nearly all he had just eaten as there was so much!

He has been fussy lately and I can't seem to console him and calm him :-( it breaks my heart. I don't know if he throws up from getting too much milk (maybe I have a fast let down?), or if is something serious.

Anyone else have any experience?

It sounds like he could have reflux. Try keeping him upright for 30-40 minutes after feeding him. Perhaps try changing his nappy before you feed him. It's probably worth a trip to the doctors too, we were given gaviscon for ds2's reflux which really helped.

Eta - just seen that you've already got an appointment booked :dohh: sorry, very tired!

Could be a fast letdown or just taking in too much milk. How much expressed milk is he getting? Is he actually upset when he spits up? My daughter was a happy spitter. She spit up all the time (and would want to nurse again right away) but it never bothered her. I remember her going through a growth spurt around 3 weeks where she was fussy all the time. Won't hurt to talk to a doctor though.

My lo does this if I lay her flat to soon after feeding. You hold there legs too when u change so your pushing on the tummy as u change without realising and i imagin that could be the reason plus baby's muscles are still soft inside so they can't keep there food down as easy as we can. Hope you get sorted off doctor. Please update us xx

Thanks ladies. He has done it two more times this morning (Sunday morning). It was more like spit up these times though rather than projectile vomiting his whole meal everywhere. Poor little man :-(

My son is 5 weeks old and has been the same since day one. Massive amounts of projectile vomit (whole feed a few times a day us a few ting spit ups as well)

I went to the doctors who said reflux due to other symptoms arching back during feeds, comfort feeding wanting to feed to soothe pain and then throwing up, swallowing acid and crying etc. In pain all night with stomach and doesn't sleep and very restless

Got prescribed gaviscon that didn't help so took him off it. With time he's sick a bit less. I find that he needs to be winded often. If you don't slready? Try winding during and after a feed and whenever they seem uncomfortable because it could be that.
Could ask be 'colic' so could try other colic type medicines? My son is terrible with wind and gas which causes a lot of his fussiness but he also has diarrhea quite bad which makes me think he could maybe have a bit of an intolerance to something im eating.

I wouldn't worry and don't think it's anything bad at all. Maybe just milk reflux or your baby could just be a sicky baby? It takes a while for their gut to mature which can lead o throwing up. Also if you think you have a fast let down try expressing a bit before feeding as this should reduce your let down which can cause babies to throw up. X
