My baby has bad thrush on his bum, he has just finished antibiotics. It's the weekend here so can't get in at the dr's until Monday. It is getting redder and more raw looking by the minute.

I have been using Metanium just for today as i have nothing for thrush. This has just made it worse. What can i use to help my LO? Everytime i put any cream on his bum he cries out cos it is so red raw now and he keeps pooing after every time i apply cream which doesn't help the soreness.

What can i buy over the counter tomorrow for him? Can i use Canesten combi cream on him or not? I have some of that in.

Hi,

You need an antifungal cream, my baby had thrush in his mouth cleared up quickly but totsl nightmare especially as like you it happened after anti biotics which were making him better and then he got this!!!! See if you can get something in pharmacy they should be able to help you, ask them for an antifungal treatment. Also get a baby probiotic to help rebalance the good bacteria you can get them in health food shop, this can help too. The thrush should clear up in a few days. However nappy rash can really flare up with antibiotics so may be worthwhile getting dr to check it out in monday. Good luck
Good luck

Thanks, he had thrush once before as a newborn and it was horrible then for my LO too. It just seems to go from a little bit red to red raw and weepy looking in half a day? I'm gonna try the chemist tomorrow and if they can't give me anything over the counter then i'm gonna have to travel 20 miles to the out of hrs dr's in the next town. I don't really want to leave him till Monday as it's already got so much more worse just throughout today.

Hi

If you have probiotics then you could make a paste with a little water and put on his bum, let it dry,do this several times a day

Good luck

mine has thrush atm and was given canesten HC, it's clotrimazole 1% and hydrocortisone (can't remember the %) so I guess you could you what you have in the meantime (check the % though)
:flower:

Was with a weak vinegar solution tablespoon vinegar in a cup of water, but make sure it doesn't burn him first. Miconozole cream works too. It's just OTC east infection cream.

A thrush rash needs to be kept dry, as its yeast and yeast grows in moist wet places.. (this is why its a pain in the butt for oral thrush). Change often and use telc powder till you can get to the doctor. Diaper creams will keep it moist and cause it to get worst.

and the other creams anit-fungals will help too with keeping it dry :)

Surely weak vinegar would really sting??? ESP if its weepy... It needs to be kept dry n give some nappy off time as much as poss. Why don't u ring nhs direct n check if u can use the cream u have?

Tesco sell cloterzole (sp!) 1% for £2.25 I swear by it

I got some Clotrimazole cream 1% from the pharmacy in Morrisons for £1.99. Spoke to the Pharmasist(sp?) and he said i was doing everything right so far - washing him with water with abit of savlon in it. Drying him off and using talc and that this cream should clear it up, thank god. My poor little boy.

When I use it I can see a difference within couple hours. Hope its a quick worker for him too
