Not sure if there is a thread about it.

Who has issues? I hada blood test done and found out I have low thyroid. After many blood tests this one finally came up even tho I was tested for it 5 months ago.

Hypothyroidism is the reduced activity of the thyroid gland (underactive thyroid) leading to a decrease in circulating thyroid hormones. This slows the metabolic activity within the body.

Hyperthyroidism (thyrotoxicosis) is the increased activity of the thyroid gland (overactive thyroid) resulting in an increase in the level of thyroid hormones circulating in the blood. This speeds up the metabolic activity within the body.

There are many causes of both hypo- and hyperthyroidism but the most common cause in both instances are autoimmune diseases – Hashimoto’s thyroiditis (hypothyroidism) and Grave’s disease (hyperthyroidism).

==========================================================

Hypothyroidism: Weight gain. Cold intolerance, Fatigue. Slow and sluggish. Sleepiness. Depression. Poor memory. Inability to concentrate. Costipation,Heavy flow. Prolonged or frequent periods

Hyper: Weight loss. Heat intolerance, Fatigue but hyperactive. Cannot sit still, Anxious. Irritable. Nervousness, Diarehea, Lighter flow. Absent or infrequent periods

What is bold is my symptoms. So why did the doctor dianosed me with hypothyroidism and not hyper? Which is where most of my symptoms are.

I also have an underactive thyroid. My count wasn't out of the "normal" range at 3.4 but my specialist put me on thyroxin because for pregnancy she'd like it under 2.

Are you on thyroxin?

isnt it when you have a low thyroid level its HYPER thyoroidism? because i had a thyroid level of 64 and i have HYPO thyroidism...its better now but not normal...

I dont know my numbers all he said I was below and it was hypo, but all my problems are under the hyper list ?

Levothyroxin Sodium I am on

Im on the Levothyroxin as well....but im thinking your doctor is wrong or hes not telling you right. because HYPO thyroidism is when the levels are HIGH and HYPER thyroidism is when the levels are LOW....so maybe call your doctor back and ask him to clarify it with you...Im going to be going to specialist about it in January, because my doctor is having trouble getting my levels down....but i would call your doctor to clarify it because if your levels were low you have hyperthyroidism... Good luck!

Teah He said my levels are low, it could be becuase he has a heavy accent. but I tried carifying it, and im sure he said hypo. But iM 100 % sure he said my levels are low.

Can i be cheeky and ask how much weight gain you had? it's just that I have gained 3st over the last 5 years, following a year of rapid weight loss after having my daughter (not dieting). My GP has said my thyroid is 'okay' but i cannot understand it and my family has a large history of it.

hi ladies i am under treatment for hypothyroidism, it is when un thyroid levels are LOW. it has been controled for about 2 months now under treatment of course, and i finally managed to get my bfp

that makes sense....then why is my doctor saying i have HYPO when my level was 64....i have HYPO symptoms too....??? so confused....i could have sworn he said hypo....

maybe you heard wrong?? there is a rare condition (my sister had it when she was one) that develops hypo... but some time later it changes to hyper.. and then can back up again as hypo.. what is your current medication?

my level keeps going up and down...dunno why...im going to a specialist in January...but still...i have super dry skin like hypo...i dont break out...i never miss a AF...except once...i gained weight...not lost weight...so i dunno...im just confused.

I'M ON LEVOTHYROXIN FOR 112MG. I HAD THE SAME SYMPTOMS AS YOU, GAINED WEIGHT AND COULDN'T LOOS IT, BUT NEVER MISSED AF, TIRED ALL THE TIME, ETC. AT THE BEGINNIG MY LEVELS WERE ALL OVER THE PLACE BUT UNTIL 2 MONTHS AGO MY LEVELES GOT REGULAR BUT NOW THAT IM PG IDK

Im not really quite sure, I was 150 lb last year, now i am 167. Alot of it is too much fast food.

if you have low levels you have HYPER...i went to the lab today to get my levels checked and they said its opposite than what it sounds...so HYPER=low....and HYPO=high levels...i will verify it with them again when i call back for my results...good luck!
