My 2nd attempt at BFing is going much better than my 1st! I'm only like 2 days in but my little girl is latching and getting some good feedings in which is way more than I was able to do with my son at this point.

I'm of course struggling with the exhaustion which is to be expected. I've heard lying on your side was a life saver for other moms during night feedings. Can this be done safely with a newborn? I do have large breasts too which can be a little challenging. Any help would be great!

I have big breasts and use the side lying position. To begin with I had to hold the boob with one hand which was less comfortable but now she is stronger and I'm better at positioning her it works well hands free. As for safety it depends on how well you know yourself. I didnt feel safe sleeping while feeding in the begging because I was too exaused and could fall into a deep sleep instantly but now that I'm back to my usual light sleeping self I often use it to snooze in the morning for her last feed before I get up and I feel safe with that.

I find pulling DS's lower half very close, and scooting his head back a tiny bit helps a lot. I also use a small blanket under my neck and a pillow between my knees.

Keep trying until you find what works for you! It really saved my sanity :)

I had trouble with side lying until LO got bigger. First we had to use nipple shields and it wouldn't work at all. Then when we got off them, I had to raise myself up on my elbow to latch on but then I could lay down next to him and we could nurse. Annoying during the night! But now he latches on just fine.

Basically I did have to modify a little when he first started, simply raising myself up to help him latch, but then I could lay down.

I've just sarted this too. I have large boobs and sore nipples so I need to prop myself up whist he latches. When on left boob I cradle my left arm round him and pull the covers down so they can't come above his head

Yep another large breasted side lying bfer here. I found by lying baby at a slight diagonal to my body helps (head further away, feet in close) also I lie slightly tilted backwards to get the nipple in the exact right place. You'll find your own way of making it work, I'm sure! Deffo makes bfing so much more relaxing in those early days!

DD feeds best when we lie on the bed on our sides. When she was newborn I used to prop her on her side a bit (although that was to help with reflux, but it helped side feeding) which helped. Having bigger breasts makes it easier to feed lying on your side I think. Like the others I have DD's legs up against my body and upper half angled slightly away.
