Ive been reading up on what contractions 'feel like' and alot of the comments are about period cramps, pressure and the griping pains you get when you have diarrhea...

Now Im sorry.. but how would you explain them?
Right here come the tmi ... I had a TERRIBLE experience on holiday in Bulgaria where I got the MOST AWFUL bout of severe severe diarrhea, I was literally puking from the gripping tight pain of my stomach it felt like it was being ripped apart, lay against the cold wall sweating like I have never seen before and I just wimpered and cried and this lasted HOURS AND HOURS! (oh my god, I cant believe I just told you that!)

Is this a similar experience? Obviously minus the diarrhea lol :haha:

Im so sorry :dohh::dohh:

But weve all done it!!! ahah xx

I'd say they're similar yes.

In early labour my contractions felt like period pains, as things got going i'd say it felt more like very strong period/diarrhea cramps with added tightness...i then ended up on synto (the hormone drip) to speed things along though and that felt like my entire torso was in a vice which someone was using to squeeze the life out of me...

Labour pain is very difficult to describe though imho...

Not sure what happens when you're allowed to labour naturally at your own pace, i'd imagine it starts feeling like cramps and then gets progressively more painful.

HTH!

I would say it was like nothing you will have experienced...in my case it was totally diferent to other feelings.

I wouldnt say they were painful as much as incredibly intense.

A ctx would start like a crampy tight feeling in my bump then spread in a wave throughout my whole body - it was a feeling like being squashed but without the pressure, like standing on the edge of a precipice, like how your chest feels when you hold your breath but all over.

They lacked the dull achey feeling of bruisey or headachey type pain and had none of the sharp ouchyness of cuts or sprains.

I found ctx easy to deal with as they would build and decline and you expected them and if you focus on the experience and breathe deeply and evenly focusing on each ctx as it comes and not thinking that it is pain then they were fine.

well with the problems ive had the last few days in that department after having my baby girl i would say it feels more like when u have the opposite of the problem u had. i actually just told OH my tummy is so messed up it feels like im about to have the baby again. the cramps started it all like i was having a heavy rough period then i swore i had to take a huge poo but it was her head. i could never feel the braxton hicks though

My contractions were all in my tailbone, my hips felt like they were going to shatter, and everytime a contraction would hit I thought I was going to die, as you start shaking uncontrollably after a while.

My contractions this time started off like a stitch in my side with a full bladder iykwim I didn't think they were contractions at all more like round ligament pains and an urge to wee tbh I was expecting hospital to tell me it was wind or constipation cause it felt more like that than bh or period pains. I can't rem what they were like on my other labours.

Mine felt a bit like mild intestinal cramps coupled with the feeling that my cervix was being stretched to 100cms wide then let go again.

All the pain was centered in my cervix. I wont lie, it was agonising. But I'd do it again!

My contractions had no build-up due to being induced. for about 3 hours i had no contractions, and then BANG i had contractions. they felt at times like being torn in two, and i would shake uncontrollably. for the second half of the hard part i also felt like i had to poo SO bad, i sat on the toilet forever!
REALLY hoping for a natural labor and birth this time around. :P

A lot of my contractions were in my back as I had a back to back labour. I felt like the lower half of my body was in a vice.

when i was at 9 cm mine were also all in my back i couldnt handle that pain i was crying it hurt so bad. she was back to back with me

ive had diarrhea for 24 hours now and yesterday was having a lot of back and pelvic pain. ive been avoiding calling the doctor because i dont want to go to the hospital to get checked out

Early labour felt like period pain, for me. Late labour was like I had just hit my cold hand on something and I get that stingy pain but in my stomache and only lasting as long as the contraction. The real pain was the stretching at the end. If I watch the video back I kind of whimper and my hands are shaking. But that is the part that lasted the least amount of time.

another one with back to back labour. i had no pain in my stomach at all. it just went tight with each one but didn't hurt.

the pain in my back however was a different story!

Can we get more contraction stories??? I'd like to know what I'm in for when it's time lol

I see every woman experiences it differently....

I started with little contractions 4 hrs before birth. To me they were a bit like diarrhoea cramps that come and go. Everything very tense for a minute or so and then can relax. Once fully dilated, there was the urge to push (a bit like if you re constipated and your body decides its time to get rid !)
The midwives "know" the change in noise that its time.
My labour wasnt particularly painful, just had gas n air, stung a bit when she crowned but all over in a few seconds and you truely do forget any pain once they ve arrived.x
