Toddler toenails cracked? Anything to help it?

LO's toenails seem to be cracked or peeling. They're so small it's hard to tell really. One day I thought one was getting ingrown and today I noticed a little dried blood I think. I forgot to look closer and don't want to wake him up right now, but has anyone else had similar issues? Is the cracking/peeling normal for toddlers?

I tried to google and it sounded like since their nails are so soft still they peel easily, but has anyone else heard that? Is it common?

What can I do to help it? He's never seemed bothered by it, but he's not the type to make a big deal of any cuts or injuries.

(He has no skin conditions and his fingernails look fine. I just got him new shoes since I think the others were getting too small and possibly causing the issue.)

Sophie's are like this, they look terrible! One even ripped right off the other day and she didn't care.

Not sure why they are like this but her fingernails are nice. It's not shoes here as she hardly ever wears shoes and he ones she does have are super soft leather moccasin type things.

This happened to my lo a while ago.... Her whole nail lifted off but there was a new one underneath....she hadn't banged it or anything, it didn't bother her at all..... I was more squeamish!!!! Xx

Is it crawling? My LO crawls mostly still and his toenails are battered!

Not crawling here, she's been walking since 11 months and is 20 months now.

I think it's just one of those weird things.

My DDs nails have been awful at times! Cracked, peeling, broken and her little ones have come clean off 3 or 4 times. They seem stronger now she's a bit bigger, although just last month her big toenail randomly came off! When they look a bit peely I put clear nail varnish on them to strengthen them. It does seem to help actually, but it is hard to get her to ait still long enough for it to dry!
