Hi

I've noticed the Prep machine only makes 4oz bottles and when our baby is first born she won't be taking that much milk so what does everyone do ?

I don't really want to make a 4oz bottle and then throw what is left away so would I be able to make a 4oz bottle and then split it into 2 bottles feed the baby the 2oz and put the other 2oz in the fridge for the next feed.

I know your supposed to make bottles up as and when needed but I never did that with my first I always pre made and fast cooled the bottle and then stored in the fridge and then warmed it as and when she needed so it's only really like doing it like that until she is taking 4oz

I was thinking about splitting it, as long as they haven't drank from it and contaminated it, it should be fine I'd have thought. I did all that making fresh from the kettle with DD and I swear that's what gave me PND, having to wait and feeling like a bad mum. Gonna try it a bit differently this time!

I started of making bottles that way but it drove me mad and a friend told me about the pre making and fast cooling and it was a life saver.

I was just trying to think of ways of not having so much wastage in the early stages when she won't be drinking 4oz so hopefully it'll work that way xx

My daughter took 4oz a feed from really young - we also bought the big bottles of premade milk for going out which we sometimes used in the house. I think she was maybe a week old when we started making 4oz bottles? She wasn't a big baby either, she was under 7lb!

Oh blimey! How long did she go between feeds?

I feel like a new mum all over again as it was nearly 6 years ago now since I've had a newborn. I have bought a few of the small pre made bottles for when we go out.
Would you suggest to just make 4oz and offer it to her and she'll take as much as she needs ?
I feel like I know nothing at all !!

3-4 hours during the say. She was only ever up once a night and dropped night feeds at 4 weeks. She probably didn't drink the entire 4oz but maybe had about 3oz most of the time, sometimes more.

We used those premade bottles too, they were great in the early days. It works out a lot cheaper to buy the big bottle than the small ones if you are out a lot (like we were) the only problem is it doesn't keep well.

Now I think about it she was born on the Thursday, we were home on Saturday and they gave us about 48hrs of small bottles for free from the hospital, so we made her 4oz from the Monday (4 days old) and I don't remember there being masses of waste!

Wow you have been so lucky i remember my little girl used to go every 3 hours during the day and night as well !! Will look into getting the larger bottles how long can they be left open before they need getting rid of ?

She's great for sleep but she was a nightmare in the sense that she wouldn't let me leave her alone for even a second so it wasn't all plain sailing lol!

I honestly can't remember, it tells you on the bottle - maybe two days? My wee one went onto prescription milk when she was 4 months so we haven't used normal milk in about a year.

I suppose you can't have everything tho can you I'm hoping this baby is a little better at sleeping. My little girl had a milk allergy and was put on prescription milk but for the first 6 weeks would scream in pain from 8 till 1 every night it was so hard to see and the doctors just fobbed me of with colic.

Two days isn't to bad I thought it would be more like hours will defo buy some of the big bottles next time I'm shopping
