Too many ultrasounds?

Hi ladies!

This is my first pregnancy. Before falling pregnant, DH and I were visiting a fertility specialist to help us. After becoming pregnant, I went in once a week for bloodwork and ultrasound to make sure everything was developing well. I had a total of 4 transvaginal ultrasounds at the Re between weeks 4 and 8. I was then discharged to my regular obgyn. At 12 weeks, my ob did an abdominal scan, making for a total of 5 ultrasounds in 12 weeks. I am so nervous about any effects this could have on my baby. I looked it up and saw the possibility of excessive scans being linked to neurological problems but I don't know how valid these facts are.

Can anyone help put my mind at ease or offer info?

Thanks xo

I'm sure all is fine with your little one! : )

I have a wonderfully healthy 4 year old. When I was pregnant with him, I had an ultrasound "just for fun" probably once a month at a pregnancy help center where I volunteer.

With this pregnancy, I had some minor spotting and cramping early on. As a result, I had 4 transvaginal ultrasounds, and 1 abdominal by 12 weeks. I am 21 weeks today. Last week we had our gender scan, and the little guy was in there just kicking away and everything looked and sounded completely perfect.

The bottom line is that, yes, bad things do happen, and we will always worry, because that is what moms do. But the risk is so small, and you were obviously following doctor's orders. I'm sure your little one is in there growing like crazy! : ) Try to relax and enjoy being pregnant.
