I’m almost 34 weeks and was told today that I have extra amniotic fluid and have to go for an ultrasound every week for the next 3 weeks. The doctor didn’t tell me much about what that meant but after researching online myself I’m worrying. I read that it could be caused by the baby having some type of birth defect or infection. I also read that it can cause stillbirth or postpartum hemorrhage. I don’t want anything to happen to my baby and I don’t want anything to happen to me after I have her. I’m trying not to worry myself but it is the only thing I can think about now. I plan to call my doctor in the morning to ask questions but I don’t think I’ll be able to sleep tonight. Has anyone else had extra fluid in a previous pregnancy or current one? Did you have trouble during delivery because of bleeding? I don’t know how likely any of the risks are that I read about but now I feel like I won’t be able to relax.

I’m sorry to hear your so worried. Google can be evil and make us worry so much. Is there anyway you could call your dr/midwife and get some reassurance from them? Hugs xx

Hi there, during my last pregnancy I had alot of extra fluid and had to have weekly scans also, I was tested for infection as some kinds of infection can cause this perticualy slap cheek, I tested negative for all the tests, my son was born on time perfectly healthy had a normal delivery and I was well after birth I never knew the cause of it but it done no harm to me or baby, I don't know how much help this is but just thought I'd let you know that sometimes it just happens and they don't know why but also most of the time it causes nothing

Thank you for your response. I appreciate it. That makes me feel a little better after all the scary things that I read online. I’m still waiting on a call back from my doctor so all I’ve been doing is reading anything I can find and it’s only made me worry more.

Two of my relatives had extra amniotic fluid in third trimester. One had gestational diabetes and I guess she was told that was the cause. The other had regular scans and was tested for GD and a bunch of things, the cause was not identified. Both ladies gave birth to healthy babies. I hope everything turns out okay.

Have you been tested for gestational diabetes? I'm sure if they was concerned you would have been admitted lovie. I'd take comfort in knowing that xx

Hey last labour was undetected high fluid discovered when they broke remainder of my waters artificially. Only things this changed is they had to pop their hands inside me to make sure the cord didnt come before babies head, otherwise it had no other implication x
