Too popular?

I love the name Abby, so cute!

When i was pregnant with my son, i had the name Abriella on my list if bump had been a girl. I prefer Abriella to Abigail, bc to me it sounds softer & prettier... but my ultimate goal was to end up with the nickname "Abby" for the baby... bc it's just so darn cute!

I know (in the US) it's in the top 10 and has been for several years (at least) -- but i would never have guessed that bc it doesn't seem that popular

I'm glad i didn't end up using the name Abby tho, bc i met my OH a few months after i had my baby & OH's niece is named Abigail/Abby. We have small families... so two kids (out of ONLY 2 kids!) with the same name would have been very silly!

I think you should use the name if you love it, plus i love the connection to your mom!

Aubree
Aubriella, nn. Aubri

These are two similar alternatives... although i have a feeling they are becoming popular too (since two moms on 16 & pregnant named their babies Aubrey)

I absolutely LOVE that name for a little girl! I know only 1 with the name and it fits her to a T! We call her Abby for short :)

I know lots of "Abbys'". Their real names are Abigail, but never met anyone named Abigail who actually used their real name, just Abby.

I personally am not fond of it and think Abby is too common.

I only know one little girl named Abigail and she's now 11!

In the US its one of the top 10 names. it is VERY VERY popular. However, if you love it, then go for it hun!
It seems to me like your pole is skewed bc most ppl on BnB are not from the US and i know many are in the UK and as music81 pointed out, its not a popular name there. The SS admins has it listed as number 7 out of ALL SS names! So yes, highly popular.

Not sure what state you are in, but if you want an even better stat on how popular or not the name is go here: https://www.ssa.gov/oact/babynames/state/index.html it may not be as popular depending on where you live :flower:

I will say it's not as popular as it once was. I only knew one person with the name growing up. My co-worker's name is Gail, but not Abigail.

My name is Abigail and if this baby was pink I wanted to name him Abigail, but I think it's too popular now...whenever I go anywhere I ALWAYS hear my name called, when before I never did. Mostly girls 10 or younger, but I hear it all the time now.

I use the social security website to see how many babies were born with that name and you can even search by state or year.. :) Gives you a good idea of the popularity and you can take it into consideration when naming your baby.
