I am really down about my body right now and want to get into a workout routine. Today is two weeks since I gave birth, it was a vaginal delivery. Of course, I am still bleeding but feel much better. I was thinking of starting off with walking, using 5 lb dumb bells for my arms and maybe doing some squats. Does this sound like too much? How soon did you all start working out after delivery and what workouts did you start out with?

Also, I really don't eat that much in a day (which isn't good since I am breastfeeding), I just don't really have an appetite or I am simply just too busy with my LO. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I've gone down quite quickly but my belly is very flabby and hangs over my jeans  but I'm not an exercise person myself. I think if you really want to start exercising again you should start off doing very light things like walking and build up as your body is still recovering and doing things too fast might slow it down or cause you problems. My mw told me I should still avoid lifting as although I didn't have any tears or stitches as the muscles in my abdomen and pelvic floor are still adjusting

I would stay it is still a bit too soon. Give your body time to recover. Some light walking would be ok, but no more than about 10 minutes or so. I am still now working out, but I am hoping to go to post natal yoga tomorrow.

If it was me i'd definetely be waiting a couple more weeks. I think walking is ok but I wouldn't be doing anything else. Your body has been through alot and is still adjusting and it will take a while for it to get back to normal.
But that being said if you feel that you can do it than maybe just give it a try and see how you feel after wards.
You know your limits just don't overdo it!!

Im going to start excercising soon, within the next week. Kieran is just over two weeks old and I also had a vaginal delivery.

People have said it's abit soon but I personally feel fine and back to 'normal' so im going to excercise. If it feels too much or gets uncomfortable though I will stop.

Im going to start with walking and am trying to find a good workout DVD I can do aswell :)

mytummy has gone down loads but is quite saggy beacuse i had c section i wont be exercising for a while yet im still in my maternity trousers

I dont seem too eat much during the day either but i thinks its because im so busy! i seem to have lost alot of weight but i'v still got my flabby belly and cant quite get away with normal jeans yet! im not going to start exercising for another few weeks yet i had a viginal delivery and i still dont feel quite right but as soon as i do i'll be doing plenty of sit ups!!

Walking is fine and very good for you. Also, do core stomach muscle exercises. As for squats, I would be careful doing those so soon after birth. The main issue with exercising is that your joints and muscles are still loose from the relaxin, and it is very easy to hurt yourself. You especially have to be careful with your back and hips, which squats can put a strain on.

My sister's MW told her that exercising before you have quit bleeding is what can cause your uterus to fall when you get older because you don't give it time to completely heal. I would say light walking is probably all you should do. My dr. told me not to lift anything heavy until 6 weeks. *I had excessive level 3 tearing*

I went for a jog only 1 week after a pretty difficult labour with episiotomy and stitching. HV told me afterwards that I was mad to do that and should only be walking gently and really taking it easy, so needless to say I've not jogged since, but am itching to get back to the gym lol! x
