Wasn't planning to end up here, but I guess life surprises you sometimes ...

My OH and I had a condom break around 11:30 pm on September 19th. We didn't realise until it was (far) too late lol.

I took Levonelle (the morning after pill) next morning at 10 am, so well within the 12 hour limit for greatest efficiency. However, I was having EWCM at the time we DTD and apparently if you have already ovulated/are close to ovulating, the pill doesn't usually work. I am pretty certain I ovulated the next day, September 21st, which means the pill definitely failed (I can generally feel ovulation happen, and end up with a sore stomach for a day or so afterwards).

I thought I was done and never wanted to have another baby (and so I took the MAP) but having thought about it with typical rose-tinted glasses, I am totally prepared to have a new baby. It'd be bloody lovely, actually - though not entirely ideal, somehow we would cope!

Anyone else been in my position or currently going through this?

Don't have any symptoms of anything really but since it's too early for implantation, that's not unusual, even if I am going to end up pregnant. My period is due around 4th/5th October.

Hope someone will come talk to me!

I haven't been through this personally but hopefully someone else will be able to give you advice. I am hoping everything works out whichever way hun :hugs:

The pill doesn’t only stop ovulation, it usually prevents implantation. I used it at various points in my cycle as a teen and early 20s and never became pregnant.

I hope you get the result you want!

I'm interested to know whether MAPs have been changed or whether what they know about them has changed, as I used it too in my teens (did end up pregnant and had a MC but that is by the by), and all the stuff you said is what I understood to be true back then when I took it. However, now all it says in the booklet I got with it is that it can delay ovulation if taken at certain points in the cycle and that it 'may' thicken cervical mucus. Eek! Also, Levonelle is apparently the least reliable of the two options but I couldn't take the more reliable one - ellaOne - as I am still breastfeeding and there aren't enough studies saying it is safe.

I (or my OH, or indeed both of us) seem to be pretty fertile and have been caught first time with both our existing children, so I guess we will see! Happy either way really. :)

I think because of the higher cost of ellaOne the feeling is that it is really pushed that it works for up to 5 days and it definitely impacts implantation and therefore can be marketed as safer.

As far as I can see online the active ingredients of levonelle have not been changed since it went from a two tablet to one tablet method.

Levonelle used to be pretty wishy washy about how it worked and I think now it’s had to remove the wishy washy ‘May impact implantation’ claims from the packaging as the extra hormone in ellaOne definitely impacts it.

I had a quick look and one study found that levonelle only prevent ovulation in 15% of cases so the effects post ovulation may well be the dominant factors as to how it works. But there seems to be a lot of ‘we just don’t know’

One study said that caution should be taken if you have had ectopic pregnancies so there just be a suspicion that it effects transport of the embryo down the tubes.

I hope it all works out well for you. I always found it a confusing time when I had to take it! It worked out ok for me when I took it at peak fertile time, we also are super fertile, 4/5 conceptions were one hit wonders, lol. I know a few people though who went on and had healthy pregnancies after MAP.

Ah that all makes sense, thanks! I'd forgotten it used to be two pills - I last took it in 2004. And you had to answer a load of questions and take it in the presence of whoever was supplying it to you as I recall ...

I don't have any history with ectopic so hopefully that won't happen to me. That would be horrible! I have read that if you do end up pregnant, having taken the MAP should not have any adverse effect on your baby. I am hoping this is true ...

Having some cramps today, watery CM still going on, and my boobs feel sore. I can't remember whether this is normal for me at this point in my cycle or not.

Watched a load of birth/breastfeeding videos yesterday and am, of course, now desperate for another baby.

Hi there! So my last DS was shock of my life for this very reason. Had a condom break and took levonelle 3 hours after (it was lunch time we dtd lol) anyway i used to keep a pack of ics in the cupboard and do one every month to make sure i wasn't pregnant where i wasn't on the pill or anything and out of nowhere strong line. That was 11 days after I dtd. I had an early scan which matched exactly the gestation i thought i was which meant I ovulated that day. The pregnancy was fine and no complications. Good luck to you hope this helps a bit. X

I took the morning after pill a little late but within 24 hours. I think. I’d have to dig through my messages. I had a road trip and the drug store was closed. I remember having O pain/cramping there and didn’t think much of it, then later that afternoon finally got around to getting privacy and the pill. I did end up pregnant. I did end up not having a successful pregnancy due to a cyst on my ovary. I was very confused when I found out but my gun explained that because I ovulated before I took the pill that it does happen. The cyst was not caused by the pill. I have PCOS.

Oh gawd lol. I am increasingly feeling this is going to be me too. I feel quite nauseous this morning - crampy and generally off. I also have the most horrendous gas in the world and have had for days now.

I guess I'll do a test in the next couple of days to be sure as I'm not taking any prenatals or anything but would like to get that started if I need to.

Thanks for your reply! Really helpful. :)

Pretty sure I hadn't ovulated at the point I took the pill but it definitely did nothing to delay it. From everything I can see it's not especially reliable if you are close. Eek!

Sorry your pregnancy that time was not successful, it's a shitty feeling. :(

Glad to of helped! I hope you get the result you want keep us updated! X

I hope that you get some answers soon!

I took a really cheap rubbish test yesterday (approx. 8dpo) and got a BFN. No surprises there!

I have one left and am going to seriously hold off now (yeah, like that's going to happen, this is me we're talking about). I've been through all my pedantic cycle records and worked out I am actually technically due on 2nd, so if I don't get AF that day I'm going to hold out until the 5th and see what happens ...

Just wish I knew! It's sooo tedious waiting!

Think I'm out! Took second test today and negative. Now having pink CM. I am around 11 dpo so probably a bit late for it to be IB, which I have never had before anyway. Reckon it is AF - bit sad, bit relieved ... much easier NOT to have another baby, but it still would have been nice. Hey ho! I'll watch for an increase, which I am 99% sure will happen.

Sorry hun hugs . Just wasn't ment to be. Plus you took the morning after pill that might be why no baby now.

Well - that being the general intention of the MAP, I would say yeah, possibly? No way of ever knowing I guess! I'm not upset about it. :)

However, I still haven't actually started AF. There is nothing really - just a tiny amount of light pink-brown discharge now and again. I've been wearing the same liner (not a pad) for like 4 hours and it's clean. :/ Roll on tomorrow.

AF in full flow now. Hey ho ... onwards and hopefully upwards. Very satisfied with my two girls and three comfortable bedrooms in my house. :haha:
