totally overwhelmed and panicking!

Take a deep breath!!!! You need to talk to someone, get the fears into perspective and get a clearer view of things. I'm not saying that it will work miracles but sometimes actually writing down your fears, what they are, what triggers panic attacks and learning how to 'talk yourself down' can help. Speak to your midwife or GP, they might be able to get you seen by a mental health nurse who can give you pointers on how to deal with panic! I'll dig through my notes (I'm a mental health nurse!) and see what I can find for you. Right now write a list, questions about labour, what you fear might happen, what others can do to help, think about a birth plan that includes information for those that will be with you so they can see if you start to panic and step in quickly to stop it escalating. What are your warning signs? Is there anything you do (start scratching, breathing changes, stop talking, talk very quickly etc) that would let other know you're getting panicky without you having to say anything?
I know that may seem a lot to think about but it's worth it and I sometimes find just looking at the problems laid out makes me less panicked about what's happening, it's not a cure but it helps.
Good luck, just ask if you need.

I have no experience of panic attacks, but can tell you as a mum that what your feeling now is completely NORMAL!!!
Every woman who is pregnant, no matter what the circumstances has these feelings of being overwhelmed and panicking about what is going to happen, especially with chilldbirth. I remember being afraid to go out alone for last 3 weeks of my pregnancy incase my waters broke when in shop, street, etc. I also remember panicking about childbirth, what if i couldn't do it?? not to mention the many times when baby was born that i got up just to check baby was still breathing!!!
Its a strange situation, because you have no control over what will happen, and you just have to trust your body and instincts, to know what to do, and it will. My LO is now 3, and at times still feel like i have no control, lol, he has turned everything upside down, but in the best, most wonderful way.
My best advice is just don't keep your worries bottled up. Speak to family, friends, BNB, sometimes that helps, a problem shared, as they say.:hugs:

oh hun gosh I have no experience or knowledge to sahre on this with you - feel completely helpless as to what to say but I just wanted to throw you a huge cyber hug and hope that you can find a way to get you through this. You have been through so much already and coped admireably I am hoping you can find a solution to help you cope through these attacks

Big hugs

Sam

If that happens in labour they'll cope! Absolutely worse case they'll give you a c-section, if baby is already half way out they'll get the hoover out and use suction or use forceps. They're trained to deal with all sorts of things and if you pass out or start to freak they'll find a way to deal with it!

Aw hunny i can totally sympathise! Where in Scotland are you? I definatley think you need to talk to your GP or midwife as the stress your feeling can affect your LO! ATM I've got myself so stressed ive developed IBS and also PND. Stress is a horrible scary thing but talking to someone will help! Take a deep breath and make the call! All the best hunny xx
