Hi everyone,
I'm new here and I'm looking for some peace of mind. Yesterday, my doctor decided to run blood work to check if I am infected with Toxoplasmosis. I've been sick with sinus infections and bronchitis through the whole pregnancy (31 weeks now) and I have an indoor cat. I've done a lot of research on this and I am overwhelmed with terror! All the horrible things that could happen to baby Jack are racing through my head!! Does anyone have experience dealing with this? What was the outcome?

Thank you!

You can read my toxoplasmosis journey here - https://babyandbump.momtastic.com/gestational-complications/1862469-toxoplasmosis.html

I had my little girl Dec 10 and she is perfectly healthy. :)

If you have had your cat for a long time, or worked with animals for some time, you probably previously had toxoplasmosis, developed antibodies, and didn't even know it at the time.

The bigger risk is for moms who have never really interacted with animals or done gardening/worked in areas where animals droppings may be an issue, but then suddenly get a cat or kitten.

Unfortunately, testing for toxo after you are pregnant doesn't do you a lot of good, since as far as I know the tests only tell you if you have *ever* had it, not really when you initially were exposed, and unless the exposure was during the pregnancy, it does not impact the LO.

That is how my OB explained it to me. DH still changes the cat litter though :D
