Tragedy... too close

I don’t know how to start this so I am going to try so everyone understands.

There is a man in my area who has 4 children by 4 mommies, (one of the mommies is my 17 year old cousin) He has two 4 month old babies, (different mommies, one my cousin). Averik is 2 weeks older than Emily (cousin).

On Sunday about 2 hours before he was to pick up Emily he was watching Averik. Mom was at work. Something happened and he shook Averik so violently that he broke ribs, had hand prints on the babies back. Averik is in the hospital with his skull open so his brain can swell without causing damage. He is in critical condition.
I feel so terrible for this poor baby and his mom. And terribly angry at him.

Why is it this man has 4 children and many of us are struggling to have our first!!!!

Life isn’t fair but this is cruel!!!

That is terrible! It is so hard to hear stories like that. It is so true that life is unfair. I teach in a title one school and hear stories similar to this one all the time. It makes LTTTC sooo much harder, thinking that there are so many unfit parents and yet we would do anything to have a baby. I will be praying for Averik, Emily, and the two other children that deserve so much better.

I teach in a title one school as well. I teach in a high school so I teach parents, many of who are in a special education program!!!

Oh my goodness...I probably teach your students' children...I teach kindergarten. Sooo sad that there are so many young moms who aren't ready and yet we make the decisions to have our lives together and we can't get pregnant. Ugh. I refuse to give up, though!

Thank you all. I learned that Baby Averik is being taken off life support. I feel so terrible for Averik and his mommy.

We are all hoping his dad will be charged with murder/manslaughter. They had to put him into a private cell due to the other inmates trying to kill him. . . I will know more tomorrow. Thank you for your support.

I hope he gets what he deserves. I can't imagine what the baby's mother is going through right now.

OMG! I may be a bit out of line...but people like that deserve to be "spayed and neutered!" This made me think of the perfect movie quote...I am trying to think of the full line...In the movie "Parenthood" Keanu Reeve's character says something along the lines of "Ya know...you need a license to drive a car, own a dog, and even to catch fish....but any A*hole can be a parent." That is so aggravating, but so true. I know how we all seem to feel...there are all of these children, idiots, drug addicts, etc. having babies, and don't give a crap about being a good parent...yet here we all are, who I am sure will all be amazing parents, and we are stuck waiting. Best of luck to everyone, and my prayers for both Averik's and your families.
