So I'm now about to start baby girl on solids, and although I know what I now need to do, I still have some basic questions and feel lost with so much still. I initially wanted to go the baby led weaning route, but the whole family is not on board with me on this yet unfortunetly, and theres not much I can do when baby stays with family during the day while I go to work everyday. I don't want to create drama or arguments so I don't mind starting baby on Purees at least for the first 2 months. I can see everyone being a little more ok with that once baby can sit up unassisted and has developed some teeth, I'm guessing. But I'm wondering will she take it on smoothly when the time for that does come? Or to make things easier for me in the future, should I begin by offering her the purees in a bowl and have her self-feed herself with a spoon from this starting point..is this even possible? Are there any special spoons that will help with this?

Also, I have EBF baby, and I now pump enough milk for next day feedings (ONLY)..I don't have a freezer stash like I hoped I would for this transition time and wondering what liquid to use to mix her solids with? Is water something I'm suppose to hold off on still? Is breast milk what I'm suppose to use to make her purees? Wouldn't it be too much for her digestive system to introduce two things at once (water and solids)?????

Finally, are there any advice/tips on how much milk/water to use to mix her solids with? If breast milk, what's a good way to store these small portions of breast milk I'll need? I was told to begin feeding her one fruit or vegetable (once a day) for 4 days straight to see if she'll develop any allergies to any of these foods. And I was also told her feedings should be done during the day, so that I can be awake to monitor her reactions if any (fever, choking, rashes..etc) During the day I'll be at work, so my MIL would be the one to offer her these foods then, is there anything I should be advising her to do?

I've started giving some solids to my little girl and I've found that lots of fruit and veg only needs a tiny bit of milk if any to purée.

Avacado or banana mushed down with a fork, you can add a teaspoon of milk just to thin it out but we haven't found it necessary.

Veg that's boiled or steamed till it's soft also mushes down really easy with fork.

I FF but have seen that you can buy bags from the chemist to store breast milk in the freezer though for the small amount you would put in the purée it might be easier to express an ounce or two, make up a batch of puréed and then freeze that in ice cube trays. One ice cube is plenty for baby to start with and then you can up it to 2.

We have mixed I. Some finger foods which she enjoys playing with and gumming but I don't think she's eating much. Avacado or mango fingers, steamed green beans or broccoli, things like that.

Check out the weaning section for loads of good food ideas.
