Transvaginal ultrasound & tech being creepy or normal?

Ya my husband is even upset about it, he said to me that he noticed him moving his arm around quite a bit While under the sheet he had over me, but didn't know what to think since this tech was supposed to be a "professional" & in a position of trust ....and here we are in a panic with the only "window" to see inside of me & if our baby was ok (and if I was ok cause of the question of baby being ectopic was in question too) and in the meantime this guy is doing that making me think he's trying to help find my olvery! The creepy tech was even snapping at me for asking questions during the US trying to make sure I was quiet so he could "focus" Now I bet I know why he wanted me to be quiet!

P.s. I only asked him like 2 things!!! And that's when he had me be quiet.

I have had a few dozen TV ultrasounds, I do recollect maybe once or twice my doctor taking the probe out about half way changing the angle and then putting in in the whole way again, as if to push something out of the way she didnt want to look at. Not 15 times though . and I never associated it with being sexual at all. You should report him as it sounds inappropriate.

Can I ask why you've waited 6 weeks to report it?
You say this happened at a scan at 5 weeks and your now 11 weeks??

If you ever feel uncomfortable ALWAYS mention it right away (once your home ring the hospital etc)

I've had a man give me an internal scan and he was fab, despite him looking scary (think of the big guy from the green mile!!!) but he's so gentle and very popular with the ladies as his bedside manner is top notch, your guy defo sounds creepy

On a side note-What about how long the whole scan took? It was 15-20 min long is that normal at 5 weeks?
My other kids ultrasounds were like under a couple min. That early.

Yes my second one was about 15 mins as they were having a good look
And my scan last Friday was 20 mins

To be honest I've been trying to push it out of my head the whole thing upsets me greatly and was trying not to stress and be more in the denial mode about it until a friend of mine had a vag US done a couple days ago and I asked her if they did what he did to me and she was like ummm no! So I decided to get on here to see if maybe there was a possibility that This might be normal and happend to others on Here... But it's looking like its def not normal procedure.

No not normal at all, hope they listen to your concerns,

I'm surprised the lady with him didn't say anything either, that's why they always have 2 people when doing internal scans, so not only is the guy wrong but so is she!

Guess I didn't mention that the nurse lady was in a chair across the room looking at her phone most of the time!

I looked over at her to see her response to what was taking place and that's what I saw! Im like okaaaaay.... :growlmad:

Awww hun, I'm sorry that happened to you. I'd like to think maybe he didn't know what he was doing or just has a strange technique but it really just seems creepy. With my TV a woman did it (thank god!) and like others have said she mostly moved it side to side or in a circular motion not in and out.

You have deffinately done the right thing, this is exactly why id always ask for a female ,i know not all men are perves but something doesnt feel right to me with men doing it! I remember last time i was pregnant i was having an ecg and this man probably the same age as me was looking over at me in the waitin room before we even got in the room and he asked me to remove my bra... and i said to him well usually i never have to (maybe once in AnE) and tbh if i didnt think he was already creepy i probably would of just done it and because i have big boobs they have always told me its easier with my bra on... and he was like oh k fine and he seemed to touch my boob far too much where the electrobe was going and the whole time i was lying there in my bra he keep giving me compliments on how i looked.. was very creepy. So i cannot imagine what u went through ! Let us know what they say to you! Lets hope he hasnt done it to anybody else... cant believe he even had the cheek to do it with your oh there too!! xxxxxx

I had a scan at 5 weeks and it took about 10 minutes, its hard to find the baby I guess. They didnt look at my ovaries though.

When I have had scans to look at my ovaries alone the doctor has spent 5-10 minutes looking around. Maybe he was inexperienced and was having trouble finding what he was looking for?

This guy said he has been doing ultrasound for 13 years I wonder what he did before that cause he looked older. He looked like the old elf who owned the luck dragon on never ending story.

Oh my. That is not normal procedure! Also, what is with the sheet? I've never had a sheet laid over me at any appointment. I always here stories about women who were molested by doctors and there is always a "sheet" involved. Hmm, that alone is suspicious. I understand it is confusing to know whether that is normal or not and whether to report it or not. Glad you reported this creep and hopefully you can put it behind you and not have that taint your pregnancy experience! So sorry!!

Hi.

I'm sorry you have had to go through this. I have had quite a few of these scans through my fertility treatment while they were checking when I was going to ovulate. I've only ever had the movement left to right as someone has said previously to check my tubes etc. I've never had the in and out movement before.

To the previous poster - I have always been given something to cover up with. I went for an early scan this morning and had a huge sheet to cover me. It covered my legs so I wasn't lying there open (female doctor and female nurse). At my scans before IUI I was given an extra bit of the paper stuff to lay across me so I felt less exposed.

I had a transvaginal ultrasound done for my 8 week scan on Tuesday. I was given a sheet (more like paper with a waxy underside) to cover up with. The wand was only moved side-to-side. I also had this done when I miscarried in February. Neither the tech nor the doctor ever moved it in an out, only side to side. I'd report that creeper.

sounds creepy ! sounds nothing like my internal scan
hope your ok

I've had several (and at different places) and never had that. They moved side to side to see the different sides, but not in and out. I've had them bounce the probe on my belly vaginally, but that was only to get the baby to wake up and move.

I had a scan at 5 weeks and it took about 5 mins to find the baby and check my ovaries and tubes. I had another scan at 7 weeks and this time it was transvaginal.. the professional was a woman and she gave me a soft blanket to cover my lower half, but not once did she pull it in and out. She moved it from left to right and pulled back once, if not twice to angle the ultrasound but not once did it ever cross my mind that it was in a sexual manner, it felt pretty normal.

From my experiences what you experienced wasn't normal procedure and I'm glad you've reported it! Did the hospital ever get back to you and what did they say?
