Hi all,

My LO is having trouble with what I believe is trapped wind. He's been this way for about a week now. He wriggles around in his Moses basket in discomfort and cries after a feed. He has reflux which he is being treated for but is still turning red and arching his back in pain. He is very hard to wind after his bottle but if I lay him down a while later and do a bicycle motion he passes loads of wind! His ped nurse thought he may have CMPI and tried him on neocate which he did not take to at all and threw up everywhere! I've tried infacol in his milk which doesn't seem to be working. Can anyone help please? He won't sleep unless I hold him on my front and I'm just exhausted...

Gripe Water hun, it is amazing! Works in 5-10 minutes tops

I have to second gripe water, it really helped. We also had to change his formula to a cow allergy free one (if you are ff), and we use dr. brown bottles. With this combo we have not had anymore problems on the gas front.

There's another thread saying gripe water has been discontinued (just checked my asda and they don't have anymore). Any other ideas?

We're using Boots own gripe water and find it better than Woodwards. We just buy a few bottles when we see it. Lots of our local chemists were out of the Woodwards but we managed to get a few of the last bottles, recently our local Boots has had their own brand in stock. DD also has reflux, is on Dr Browns bottles but unfortunately is still bothered by wind, I'm wondering if she has cmpi. Good luck x

I know its not ideal when you have a fussy baby and you want something now but you should try colic calm. Order it offline for about $20. It works great to break down the gas. My baby had colic from 3 weeks and it let up at about 6 weeks. Also, another life saver is a front carrier. Just stick his little butt in there and he'll pass out and you'll have use of your hands. Lol.
Aiden has reflux as well so feeding him 2oz every two hours really helped with it. He spit up less with shorter feeds in shorter time frames. I bf so i pumped and fed him for awhile to moniter his feedings. He's also really hard to burp so if he falls asleep while nursing, i just leave him be. He refuses to sleep on his back due to all the gas. I place him to sleep on his stomach and he works out most the gas himself. NOT that i'm saying you should place him to sleep on his stomach. I'm just saying what works for us and his gas issues.

I agree with DrBrowns bottles they really help with wind. Also if you can really push the Neocate it is a God send. Gripe water and Infacol can aggravate reflux so I would avoid them. Poor little man, it's awful when it hurts them so much and nothing seems to help xx

I bought some dr Browns bottles and will try today. I think it's the smell of neocate that made him sick - it's awful! I wish he would take it as I know it would help him. I was considering trying comfort milk but combined with gaviscon I thought it may be too thick. Anyone know? I got level 2 teats.

DD is on level 3 teats and Gaviscon but regular formula, we thought level 2's were too slow for her but your baby is younger so give them a go. DS was on comfort milk for a year and we used level 3 teats for a long time but sorry I can't remember when we started him on them. You can usually get them cheaper from eBay/amazon.

DD's wind was bad last night, she woke at 11, thought she was hungry but she refused the bottle, would only settle in bed beside us, then she eventually took a bottle at 3, awake again before 6. She's sleeping in my arms as she woke up 5 mins after I put her down. We might ease back on the gripe water as I'm really not sure it's helping. That's interesting Aimee says to avoid it.

Thanks very muc for your reply. Hope your LO feels better soon. My little man seems more settled even after the first feed with dr browns bottle.

Glad the bottles helped. I'm sure I remember either the Gaviscon saying not to add to already thickened milk or the comfort milk saying not to add other thickeners?

Gripe water was too harsh for my son's reflux and seconds after giving it he would vomit EVERYWHERE.

Dr Brown bottles are great, as it not feeding them too sleepy so you have a chance to move them around and get all the wind out. If your baby falls asleep on the bottle it's harder to get the wind up.

As well as the bottles I also started putting dentinox colic drops in his bottle and he is doing well. Still windy but not half as bad as he was!

My hv says you can put gaviscon in comfort milk, even though it says not to. She rang the company
