So this is our story. My husband and I have been trying since April 2009, we got a bfp at the end of September but found out at our dating scan that the baby stopped devloping at 6 weeks. I had an ERPC on 1st December and after waiting a month for my 1st AF we started trying again on 1st January but as yet we haven't managed to get a BFP.

As I am 35 we decided that after the last cycle I would go and see the doctor as it will have been almost 6 months since the operation and 15 months since we started trying. Ok for 12 weeks of that I thought I was pregnant but if you take that away from the 15 months total thats still 12 months.

The doctor was totally unhelpful. I took charts where I had temped between January - April, she said she didn't need to look at them. I explained my concerns over my age and she just said because I got pregnant before without assistance that she could see no reason for investigations and told me to go off and keep trying till the end of October and if still no bfp then go back.

That seems like a long time to me as then it will be 20 months since we started trying. Everyone I have spoken to has told me to go back but and ask to speak to another doctor I don't want to be a pain. What do you ladies think should I go back?

I defo think you should go back I was fobbed off and more than 2 years down the line I am nearly 38 and have had 2 MCs, a lap and 1 IVF and still have no baby!
Only as you get older do they go on and on about the fertility drop at 35 and then again at 38 and 40 etc.
I had to fight and eventually we found out I did have problems and not until just before our IVF did we find that DH had a problem too!

Did you go to your normal OBGYN or did you see a RE?

I love my OBGYN, but she is in the business of delivering babies and doing yearly checkups, not specializing in fertility. I went to see an RE after I felt like my normal doc was just a little "too busy" to help figure out what my issues were.

I feel much better now that I'm seeing a specialist. I would suggest getting into see a RE as soon as possible.

I have no idea what an OBGYN or RE are - I just m ade an appointment with my GPs surgery.

The doctor I saw though I think may have been a locum or stand in as I have never seen her at our surgery before. She was pretty crap - I also asked her about weight loss as I am trying to lose weight to aid ttc but no matter what I seem to do I just don't seem to ever lose anything. All she said was "eat healthily and get a bike" :dohh: as if I don't try to eat healthily anyway :growlmad:

Our doctors is pretty rubbish all round and I was a bit worried that they wouldn't be interested when I went. I just know that these things can take time and sometimes it's best to get the ball rolling.

Just noticed you aren't in the US. I don't know what yall call them over there, but an RE is a reproductive endocrinologist (fertility specialist). I'm not familiar w/other healthcare systems, but I would try to get in to see a doc who specializes in fertility, if you can.

Good luck. Hope you can get some answers soon.

I think in the UK you have to go to a GP first and then if they feel you need it they will refer you to a Fertility Specialist.

Well unless you go privately that is I think

hi shazza

i would definately go back, ask to see another doc and tell them why you are unhappy and that you want a referral. your right, we have to be referred to fs by the doc. they may want to do all your tests etc first as some fs wont accept referrals until there have been tests done first. let us know how you get on xx

please go and see another doctor in your practice and get another opinion i went to docs after 15 months ttc and male dr would not help us it knocked me for six i went back 3 months later to female doc and she is helping us now! i get my blood results on weds! you have a right to help go back and get what u deserve!!! goodluck!!! xxx
