trying for baby while having 2 cats

I have 3 cats and I think they will all get on well with the baby. They are cuddly cats anyways and never up to fights so I'm sure it'll be alright

You can also get your cat tested for toxoplasmosis at the vet's office. If you get them tested and they don't have it and they're an indoor cat, they chances they'll get it while you're pregnant are slim to none and you'll be OK to change their litter without being afraid. Just take the same precautions you do normally. Wash your hands, try not to breath in the dust and vacuum the floor around the litter box.

As far as how they'll act around a baby, invite a friend over that has a baby. My cat had NEVER been around a baby until my mom brought my baby sister over. All he did was sniff her feet, sniff around her stuff and walk away. He even let her pet him and he didn't get mad. He did hiss when she started rubbing him the wrong way but that was only because my hubby was holding him down and forcing him to let her pet him. He was more hissing at DH than at the baby.

Not true. There is no test for the cat to detect toxoplasma.

Yes, there is. I wouldn't have said it if it wasn't true. ;)

ETA: You can also get YOURSELF tested to see if you have antibodies for toxoplasmosis. If you're stressed about it, ask your doctor about it.

I went to school to be a vet tech. They only shed the oocysts for about 2 week out of their whole life. There is no test to determine if they have toxoplasma.

There is a DNA test that can sometimes determined if they already shed the oocysts and are done with it.

This sure sounds like they have a test. Not saying you're wrong, just saying that this is what I've read on multiple sources.

"What Should I Do If I Think My Cat Has Toxoplasmosis?
If you suspect your cat is carrying the parasite that causes toxoplasmosis, it’s time to get him tested by your veterinarian. If he tests positive, it means he has been exposed to the disease but is unlikely to be shedding oocysts after an initial two-week period. If he tests negative, it means he has not been exposed and could still become infected and shed oocysts—but again only for two weeks

When my sister brought home her newborn, the cat was upset for a little while & sometimes became obnoxious (jumping on counters when nursing, knowing that my sister wouldn't get up & do anything about it). This cat is a monster, normally, and only likes my sister. Luckily, the cat decided that it really didn't enjoy being around a crying baby and mostly stayed out of the way. The funny thing is, though, that if this crazy cat did decide to get to close when my sister wasn't looking, their dog would come between them and guard the baby :)

I, too, am worried about my super spoiled furbaby kitty after her competition shows up someday. She thinks dh & I exist to adore her :haha: which we sort of do

This is something I've worried about so much. I'm not worried about toxiplasmosis- both of my cats poop outside and I'll just be extra vigilant with hygine.

My cats are my babies. I love them so much and my OH is the same. We joke (and seriously it's just a joke so please no one get offended) that if they don't settle, or if we have a baby who's badly allergic, we'll have to get rid of the kid...

Both of my girls are homely cats, they love being around people, love their cuddles etc. One of them is such an attention seeker- she follows us around the house and gets depressed when we're not there.

My girls have encountered a couple of LO's- my neighbour's LO is often trying to follow them into our house. And I've had friends LOs in the house. They're just a little freaked by them. Small noisy person...what's all that about!?

I think the key is making sure you still let them know they're loved. Continue with the cuddles etc. I've heard friends' stories of the cats peeing on things when the LO arrives... I guess it's marking. I've read that it can be a good idea to get OH to bring something of the baby's home in advance on bringing the baby home so it can get used to the smells, but I guess that depends how long you're in hospital for.

I'm hoping that when my girls get used to my LO, they'll love it as it'll be someone else to love and play with...

Our cat is very similar to annie's. She needs her huge doses of attention on a daily basis.

She's seen a newborn once and didn't like him. He cried and he was so little his cry sounded like a kitten meowing. She freaked out and nearly attacked him. But once we showed her it was a baby, not a kitten, she had no more issues. Smaller kids, she's okay with. Sniffs them, looks at them and goes away.

I've worried about this too, cause our two cats are our babies, and I don't want them to be upset, but we're just gonna give them extra love. I'm not too worried about them bothering the baby cause whenever friends bring kids over, they just leave the area and want nothing to do with them.

Excited to pass on litter box duty to the hubby though! Thinking about enforcing it now that we're officially ttc. lol

my cat is now 1 year old and he is very unsociable to anyone he rarely wants a cuddle and quite happy to do his own thing so i wont be to worried like i said he rarely comes to me for a cuddle he would rather cuddle up to my dog bless!!!
