Hey everyone, my husband and I literally just starting trying (like, this month - so exciting!) I had previously watched my cycles and had an idea - pretty regular 28/29 day cycles, a good 4 day period etc. BUT not a clue about when I ovulate!! I have watched it for first time this month, had no peaks in temperatue, or change in discharge, or the pains you can sometimes get! I'm not worried or anything yet, as its the first month (in my head I'm telling myself 6-12 months) but wondered if anyone had any tips. Have read about most of the things to look for. Also, last month I was sure I saw my discharge change to the egg-white consistency. Should I have a family planning check up or anything yet?

Also, I am a bit stressed at work at the mo. Worried a bit about the effect that will have . In general, I am 28, healthy, relatively fit (bar a few weeks off the hard cardio), 5'2" and 8st 12.

When i was TTC my doctor told me that's it's prefectly normal to have 1 or 2 cycles a year where you don't ovulate. Are you taking your temp at exactly the same time each morning? Do do you use fertility friend to chart or are you doing it manually? I also found that once i started taking pre-natal vitamins (pregnacare conception) i notcied that i got more ewcm around ovulation time.

Yeah I'd definately say it'll take a few cycles to regulate .....I'd also deffo recommend joing Fertility Friend as well. Good for keeping track yourself but also to let the girls anaylyse if ever you get confused.

Good luck xx

Thanks to you both. I haven't been great at doing my temperature, but am making the effort from now to do it properly. I've been taking preconception pregnacare for about 2 months with a gap of about 3/4 weeks in between (holidays and took malaria tablets). Should I switch to the proper pregnacare do you think?

Haven't looks on fertility friend, but I will definitely do that. Also my last cycle was 26 days, which was completely out of sync really (could have been thinking about when next period starts as that's when I needed to start counting)

I'm also a bit nervous as I'm quite an intense/passionate/excited person, so I go at things in full force so I've had the thought that I havent even passed my first check of whether it worked before properly going into it all. I know that too much emphasis can makea difference thinking about it too much etc.

Also, whats ecwm ?

Thanks girls x

Sorry, EWCM is Egg White Cervical Mucus (the fertile stuff you get around Ov time). You should definitely check out FF as trying to interpret the temperature variations yourself can be very difficult, it could be that you did Ov. I think you can put your data into FF restrospectively so it is well worth inputting your temps for the month to see if FF thinks you Ov'd or not. It's free to use and really easy, you just put in your temps each day and it does all the interpretation for you.

use FF hun because it's not always obvious what a peak in temp should look like. For example my normal tems are 36.2-36.4 and my peak is 36.6 - not a huge difference but FF picks it up and it is clear on a chart. xxx

thank you all! I basically just worked out roughly about 6 days when I was pretty sure I would ovulate and had sex every day over these 6 days! Based on reading (one on my close friends had to have IVF and saw loads of specialists in London) and they said work back from the last day of cycle instead of first day. E.g if your cycle is 29 days. Day 29 = 14, Day 28 = 13 and therefore day 15 = day 1 (ovulation day) etc. Ovulation day will be the EXACT 14th day BACK from the last day of cycle - no matter how long your cycle. Usually people say from about 11th-16th day, which fits this too. But I'm going with her as she's seen the specialists! As long as I have sex about 3 days each around it !

xx

The time between the day you ovulate and the last day of your cycle is called the luteal phase. In theory it is 14 days, but as you know everybody is different. My cycle lasted 26/27 days and i ovulated anywhere between day 13 and day 19! The reason that some women have trouble conceiving is beacuse they have what is known as luteal phase defect. This is where there is less than about 10 days between ovulation and the end of their cycle. Having a short luteal phase causes problems because it can mean that the lining of the womb falls away before the fertilised egg has time to implant. This is why it's a good idea to accurately chart your cycle and not necessarily work on average figures.

Hope that makes sense!

Thank you Miss Kitty, this is all incredibly new to me so I'm guessing month 2 of TTC is going to be more accurate. after the weekend (Day 19 & Day 20) I think my husband can have a rest :)

Also I am having trouble checking my EWCM because (this is going to sound gross) I can't tell what is "the baby making liquid" and my own EWCM as we're having sex a lot (gross, so sorry!!)

Yup that's me with 9/10 day luteal phase. I am beginning to think there is no such thing as "normal"

You can tell the diff between EWCM and babyjuice by putting some between your fingers and seeing if it stretches. EWCM will stretch a bit, baby juice won't!
