After reading a few birthing stories and advice on here I've felt more at ease when it comes to thinking of the whole labour and childbirth event which is going to happen weather I want it to or not..
I think watching One Born Every Minute UK & USA made me think of negative points and made me scared, all the drama and OTT on screaming! I know I've not got the best pain thresh hold and period pain when I was heavy I couldn't cope with so made me feel very nervous and to think of the outcome at the end made me cry a little..
I'm now kinda getting my head round it because that's what our bodies are designed for and hopefully I won't lose control or have a old fashioned stricked midwife!
I think though my mind will change again and I'll be scared again in a few weeks time when my belly grows that little bit more...

I would recommend going to hypnobirthing classes. They helped me deal with my fears, and although my labour didn't go to plan, I remained in control throughout.

why do we watch these programmes when we are pregnant. I do the same thing, trust me nobody is a bigger wimp than me when it comes to pain. With my little girl i was in agony and only got to 4cm before i was beggin for the epidural.

This time around im petrified about the whole labour thing, but like you say our bodies are designed for it and women do it every day, so im told by my husband lol. I would be happier if they could just put me to sleep and when i would wake with a lovely little baby lol.

I was due on Monday gone and its looking like another c section for me but im hoping to do it naturally this time due to the recovery time.

Hope things go well for you it is a big big worry i know but those programmes are made for the entertainment and totally over the top. mind you i would give them a run for their money when i go into labour im sure of it lol.

Hun, I used to throw up with the pain from my period before I went on the pill and the strongest thing I had in labour was Gas & Air, and I was 5cm's dilated before I even went in to hospital!

I found I was so much stronger, calmer and determined than I ever thought possible, and I am sure you will be too. Your body knows what to do and your brain will learn very quickly to trust it.

Good luck for when the time comes! :hugs:

You will be fine. Go in with an open mind, take pain meds if you need them to get through it.

Be positive. I have a terrible pain threshold - I cried when I had my belly button pierced, cried from constipation and avoid anything that will cause me pain - I have general aneasthetic for the dentist! I had only gas and air for an hour with my first and nothing with my second. For me labour pain is a different pain. And trust me - the breathing works! Definitely look up hypnobirthing. I thought all the breathing was a load of bs te first time round but I used it the second time as pain management and it was bloody marvellous. Look at it this way. It will hurt. But it's you getting to meet your baby and if it was that bad then women wouldn't have two or more children. I you are relaxed and accept the pain rather than fight it, your body will relax and cope and you will have an easier birth. It's not that bad x

SHows like that seem so horrible! I haven't seen an episode yet of OBEM, but I've heard the US version is worse! We have The Baby Story on TLC over here....always shows some woman with a baby in "distress" and needing a csection....all while the mom is screaming her head off.
