Trying to understand the nub theory

Its mostly for fun and so I can feel like I am giving a more accurate guess in the future haha

Ive attached my scan and put a little arrow where I think the nub is, am I right in thinking its that and not the white line above? I can't understand what the white line could possible represent down there
