Hey guys!

Hubby and I have been TTC since April of last year with no luck thus far.

A little background on me -- when I was younger (around 2007-2008) I was diagnosed with hypothyroid and put on a thyroid medication. I lost weight, felt amazing, and then after a while I stopped taking it. Bad move on my part, of course. The weight has slowly been building up over the years despite the fact that I eat well, and I have other symptoms of hypothyroid as well. I went to the doctor wednesday and had a blood test and my level came back at 4.1 TSH and they're considering that "normal"

I'm going to be going to the doctor on the 18th (first appointment I could get) to see if I can get back on the meds, but I wanted to see if anyone else has experience in this area?

If so, what were your levels before going on meds? What meds did you get on? Did they help? I have been reading that 1-2 TSH level is best when TTC so I'm hoping the doctor will take that into account when I go see her.

Thanks!

Some labs would consider 4.1 normal, but the current research seems to show that the so-called normal range is really higher than it should be. Some docs now think the upper limit should be more like 3.5 or even 3, and for TTC they like it between 1 and 2. My RE put me on a low dose of thyroxine to get mine down because mine was 3.1 and we've been trying for 18 months with no success.

But you might have to fight to get back on the medication at 4.1, a lot of doctors just go by the old standards. Good luck!

I currently take levothyroxine for hypothyroidism. My level when first tested was 6.4 and I was put on 50mg...had it rechecked recently after being on the 50mg for 8 weeks and my level was a 4.4 and my doctor actually increased my synthroid to 75 mg with a recheck after a month. I def think you should look into it further! I know "norms" vary from lab to lab and region to region but from researching online, seems normal is 3 or below. Good luck to you!
