Hi,

After a long wait we were lucky enough to conceive our first using Clomid. I know in the UK if you already have a child you don't get IVF etc on the NHS but does anyone know if they prescribe Clomid for TTC #2 or how much it would cost to get this privately? Do you think I should still try for a year before seeing my doctor? We are only 3 months into trying #2 but it took us 2 years of actively trying and 9 of ntnp to get #1.

Hi I'm ttc #2 and have a similar story to you trying for #1 I don't ovulate without clomid so after 9months I went to GP they won't prescribe without a specialist requesting it. So long story short you can see a private fertility specialist and they will write to docs and get it on prescription but it's very time consuming. The wait for NHS referral is nearly a year sometimes longer you are eligible for treatment inc iui just not IVF.

I have opted after doing first suggestion to go Soly with fertility clinic as I have a few other issues too. They offer 3 rounds of clomid and 3 monitored cycles inc injection for egg release for £350.

Hope this helps! Good luck !

Thanks Nimbec, this is all the information I wanted, thank you so much. £350 is actually far less than I was expecting so that's a relief. I was referred to a specialist by my doctor the first time round, I remember now that they had to write a letter to my doctor who the wrote the prescription for the clomid - good old NHS eh!!! Thanks again and good luck on your journey - would love to know how you get on x

Thanks Hun :) I'm currently waiting to see if AF arrives Monday (no change of pg as had urine infection and no confined ov) if so then can start round one clomid monitoring if not I will take progesterone to jump start me which takes 10 days - forever a waiting game isn't it?! I'm also starting Metformin too I'm a bit nervous as people have said it can make you sick but fx I'll be ok!!

Do you have a local clinic? Whereabouts are you? I'm in South Wales so I travel to Cardiff which is a 3hr round trip lol!!

Xx

I'm in the south east. My nearest private clinic is about 20 miles away ands it's where we had DHs sperm test done last time (has has super swimmers so this is all down to me /sigh!) Last time all of my investigation - lap/dye etc and scans for follicles/ov was done at my local hospital. I was really lucky as I didn't really wait that long compared to many people - I had my consultant appointment about 4 months after I went to my docs for referral and all investigations had been done and clomid prescribed by the 9 month mark.

The waiting is really tough isn't it!! It somehow feels worse on the months you are monitored or waiting for AF so you can start the next round. I'm on dpo3 and already symptom spotting :/

How long were you trying for your first if you don't mind me asking?? X

Hi Tilly's mum

I'm in the same boat - ttc #2. My first was conceived using soy but I had confirmed pcos by the gynaecologist before I got a bfp. When I visited my gp he said that because I have identified sub-fertility I could go immediately back to gynae. I was referred in January & prescribed 3 rounds of clomid 50mg & today my dose was increased to 100mg on monitored cycles. Did you have gynae prescribe clomid for your first? I'm pretty sure that the guidance gp's follow suggests that women are re-referred quickly for subsequent fertility issues after they have previously been identified.

Have you asked your Gp for referral?

Hi K4th, thank you for replying. How old is your little girl?

Yes, gynaecologist recommended the clomid but it was actually the doctor that did the prescription the first time round, seemed a bit strange but I was just happy to get some help!

My infertility was still unexplained when I got preggo first time round. This time we have only been trying 6 months (3 properly) so I haven't been to the docs yet but after speaking to you ladies I think I'll go and talk to her

Thanks!

Good luck with your increased dose xx

Hi Hun

I'd definately book an appt and also maybe fib about how long trying - i'd say 6 months properly otherwise as you where unexplained last time they may make you wait ages :(. How are you getting on?

K4th hiya :) Sorry to hear about your ttc troubles, good luck on the increased dose. I'm also on a monitored cycle this month CD 6 here last clomid tablet tonight. Where abouts in your cycle are you. I have my first scan Monday which i'm damn sure they wont see anything on as i ovulate anywhere between cd14-18 on the clomid.... hey ho at least i Ov :)

Tilly's mum - my little girl is three and a half. I really wanted a small age gap but it seems it's not meant to be. It's definitely worth going to your dr - good luck!! Despite what I've said I agree with nimbec & would tell your dr you've been trying for 6 mths & that you conceived your first with clomid.

Nimbec - I'm cd 21 & still getting low readings on my cbfm. I have to wait until cd37 and then I have provera to take to get my new cycle started for the clomid. Soooo jealous of your cd6 - I have no patience lol!! Good luck this cycle

Hi K4th Sorry to hear you have long cycles too - I normally have to have the provera too - i had it in my bag ready BUT the witch spontaneously arrived before i took it PHEW normally i can go 3-4 months with no cycle - damn body! However i do cycle when on continuos clomid.....

Is it your first time on the clomid? I hear you on the frustration of waiting!!! Its soooooo frustrating!!!!!! Fx you may get a sneaky positive in their this cycle :)

Nimbec - how I hate long cycles!! They drive me nuts!! I'm cd23 today and still getting "low" on cbfm. Aargh!!! I've had three clomid cycles this year 50mg - ovulated cd 17, 21 & 31 but no bfp. Looking forward to being monitored so I know EXACTLY what's going on in there!! Lol.

Nimbec & Tia - you're both trying for #2?? How old are your lo's?

Eta: just saw your ticker nimbec! Such a lovely age!! Enjoy it!

Hi I'm in similar position to u, have one child conceived thru clomid and about ttc no.2. I also don't ovulate without clomid.
My doctor happily prescribed it for me again but then he's very easy going with prescriptions and was happy to prescribe it for me the first time round without me being referred after my day 21 progesterone results and luckily I conceived 1st cycle on it.
I've got 3 months worth so if I'm not pregnant after that I may go private clinic as £350 isn't bad so thank u for the lady who mentioned that x

Hello ladies this is the post ive been searching for . My dd is two and were now trying for LO num #2 but as most of you i don't ovulate on my own and i have pcos it took 3 years of trying and 4 rounds of clomid to conceive my DD i had my implant removed Monday. So decided to do three months of ovulation test and keep them in a diary. So hopefully if i don't ovulate i can show my doc. IM sooo tempted to order clomid online. IM hoping we will all get the help we need xxxxx
