Me & my husband have decided to start trying for our first baby..
I have been on the depo injection for a year or more now & i was due for an injection in january which i missed..

So my last injection was in october 2012.

I have heard alot of people have struggled to concieve after having the depo & in most cases it takes a year + due to periods taking a long time to become regular again.

I was just wondering if anyone has any tips to help etc?

Thanks, Heidi

Hello Heidi!

I've been on depo twice, on both occasions for several years and both times it took me 6 months for my periods to start again. I've been ttc for the past year and having problems, but I don't think it's the depo that's to blame. Hopefully it won't be that long for you what with only being on it a year or so. It's funny how I loved depo at the time for the NOT having periods....and then when you start ttc you're desperate to have them back!

Thanks for your reply. Hopefully il be a lucky one!!

Another reason I am worried though is because im overweight & have NEVER had regular periods, this will cause me problems wont it?

Hopefully it will give me more of an insentive to loose weight again :)

I went on depo and then cerazette (pill form of depo) cos I had problems with my periods and breakthrough bleeding, but since I've come off everything this time I've had regular periods (although it seems I'm not ovulating :( so now different problems!) so you never know you may get a regular cycle.

But yes weight can defo affect things :( TTC is a great incentive though, I've quit smoking because of it :) and whilst you're waiting for your cycle to start again you can focus on that and also start taking pre natal vitamins so it feels like you're still doing something. After 12 months of ttc, I've found that there's LOTS of waiting and it can drive you mad, so doing something positive really helps!

:) x

Fingers crossed eh, for us both

I have just ordered two lots of tablets which are suppose to help regulate periods etc, a few people mentioned them on another forum. i have also ordered some conceive plus & ovulation tests for once my periods are back on track. back to the gym this week for sure :) i needed something to give me a kick up the backside anyway lol hopefully il loose weight now im off the depo too :happydance:

I had only one depo shot back in nov'11 & been ttc for 9mnts now no luck "/

Yes fingers crossed :) and totally know what you mean about weight and depo, I found I was hungry all the time and could eat an entire big bag of maltesers on my own :S no will power what so ever! Hope all goes well with heading back to the gym and the AC gets your cycles back soon so you can start using those OPKs! :) x

I've been ttc for 12 months now, it's no fun any more! Especially when couples around you seem to be getting pregnant really easily all the time!

Have you got your periods back yet though?

This. Seriously. LOVED depo for that reason. Now, 5 1/2 months off it, I hope to see red every morning. Which is just... wrong. LOL!

Good luck to you all! Last week & the week before, I thought that my cycle was coming back.... But now it's looking like it was just post depo withdrawal symptoms. Which I guess is good. But not the 100% sure symptom I was looking for!

Good luck. It took my friend 18 months after stopping the depo and exactly 18 months she got pregnant.
